Did you have to seal the wall first but with a mist coat? I've got breeze blocks to paint to and lots of conflicting info.

I just used 3 coats of white matt emulsion from Screwfix. It was like £10 a tub or similar and I used 2 of them.I did the same thing in my previous garage 10 years ago and it was still faultless when I moved last Oct.

What I have gathered is that the first coat takes ages to paint on and its probably worth hiring a sprayer.
1000% this.i rented an airless sprayer and just lathered on a massive thick coat followed by a second about an hour later to just even it up. you use a lot of paint, but mine still looks perfect 10 years later.
my garage has a 1300 sq ft floor area and it was virgin block. Finished the first coat in about 20 minutes, soooo fast. well worth the £60 rental.

What do the hired sprayers do that a cheap one from amazon doesn't out of interest? I bought one for about €30 off amazon to do my garage as it is 103m2 so didn't fancy a paint brush. Worked a breeze (pardon the pun).I did first coat with a brush so I could really work the paint into the mortar - slapped it on really thick (mine is bricks rather than blocks so the bricks themselves were much quicker to cover than the mortar but of course lots more mortar due to the smaller bricks vs blocks). I used a cheap second hand sprayer for the second coat which was a lot less paint (and I had to thin it for the sprayer to work) but did the job of making a uniform coverage overall.
Painting with the brush did take ages though over several stints. Glad it's a one time job as no plans to move.

Slightly of topic but I'm in the process of moving house and am going to lose my lovely double garage
for a single one
I'll at least have some space to put the 2CV under cover, but I'd love some ideas for a carport, remembering I'll have to keep some of the space at the front of the house for turning - any ideas ?

I've spent a bit of time tidying mine up over the past couple of weeks and tarting it up a bit.
Originally I kept it simple with the concrete base, which looked fine when it was just cars in it but looked untidy and unfinished as soon as anything else went in. I then decided to paint the floor with all the proper paint which looked great for a couple of years but I obviously didn't seal things correctly or pay enough attention because it wasn't long before it started to peal a bit and looks scruffy.
So, a few years ago I ordered a pallet of 2nd hand carpet tiles off eBay and ended up with enough tiles to cover double the area for about £100. For my purposes they have been great. I'm never going to be doing messy, oily stuff in there and it isn't somewhere for wet and dirty daily drivers.
Over the years I've bought some different colours to add a bit of variation to the floor or to replace any that have got a bit dirty but at about £1.99 for each tile it's cheap enough. A big bonus from a metal framed garage is the ability to hang anything on the walls with tiny magnets so you really can do tarting up on the cheap
