That’s a lovely looking building
Thanks - designed it myself (got an architect to work out the fine detail). Brickwork (flemish bond) and crenellations match the house.Jonny TVR said:
Moved house and this is my new compact double garage.
New hardwood doors fitted and two four post lifts.
Geek alert : the 'WGU 635F' number plate on the back walls rings a few bells, I've seen a few Mk2 Mini Coopers in the classifieds in that number range over the last couple of years.New hardwood doors fitted and two four post lifts.
Great Garage, great Cobra, proper job

It's from.my just sold series 1 etype. It was imported back from the US in arpinf 2010 and tge DVLA issues the plate.Great Garage, great Cobra, proper job
Finally starting my garage build. Had some architects round (want to make it a bit ‘grand designs’ rather than the traditional box with a big door); but as yet undecided what/how.
Going to build a double, have just enough room - i think perhaps max would be 6.5x6 given space constraints - can’t decide whether to have the 6.5 as extra width or extra length.
Based on experience of those that have built - any key recommendations aside from the usual ‘big as possible’ (that’s a given)?
realistically it’s going to have some shallow storage cupboards in it somewhere, and the goal is two cars - ideally whereby one could be stored to one side and the other have sufficient room to walk around/work on, perhaps with the least intrusive lift possible (flush/buried in the floor with tiles embedded to hide it as much as possible). Likely going to put a side door in too.
I also would like to insulate and heat it (perhaps elec underfloor), so doors for this are going to be important. It will also have to look good.

Are you going for one big door or 2 singles ? ( one big door would be my recommendation ) Going to build a double, have just enough room - i think perhaps max would be 6.5x6 given space constraints - can’t decide whether to have the 6.5 as extra width or extra length.

Sounds about the same size as the garage I'm building nowGoing to build a double, have just enough room - i think perhaps max would be 6.5x 6 given space constraints - can’t decide whether to have the 6.5 as extra width or extra length.

I went longer on length than width as it makes it easier to work at the engine end of a car ie with an engine lift. Also if I need more door opening space on one side I would put the car on the other side on skates and slide it tight to the wall
For a lift I will have two, on one side an in the floor hydraulic lift table 1.2m x 1.5m and a 4 post triple stacker lift on the other side. A 2 post lift is too intrusive in between two cars. This give me parking for 4 cars in the the foot print of a large double garage
I planned to fit underfloor heating but a friend suggested ceiling fan heaters as the heat up rate is quicker for when I decide at short notice I want to spend a couple of hours tinkering after work in the evenings
Floor slab is OTT, 9" concrete with 2x steel mesh layers, at the time I wasn't sure what lifts I wanted and where each post would go so I covered all positions
Wall construction is 4" stone, 2" air gap, 2" celotex insulation board and 4" thermal blocks. Ceiling has a minimum of 150mm celetex insulation board, there is not floor insulation
Flooring will be ceramic non-slip tiles and walls will dot/dab 12.7mm plasterboard.
Sockets everywhere, within arms reach of wher ever I am, floor sockets in front/behind each car parking position to cover trickle chargers and lighting will be 600mm x 600mm LED light panels 5 or 6 on each side of the garage
I also went for a wide single opening as it gave me more room for swinging into the garage when driving in. The doors will be folding doors on tracks, 4 door panels each side
To give you an idea of size,

Very helpful, thanks! I like the door idea, too. I went longer on length than width as it makes it easier to work at the engine end of a car ie with an engine lift. Also if I need more door opening space on one side I would put the car on the other side on skates and slide it tight to the wall

What’s the ceiling height going to be?
Tbh ive struggled to find pics of garages with cars in them, and the measurements. It’d probably give some comfort to see a 6m wide garage with to normal/sportscars in it.
Fans are not a bad idea too, or maybe even IR panels. I might chuck in the underfloor regardless as it’s relatively low cost to throw in before screeding. I’m hoping i can control myself and keep just two ‘garaged’ cars, and thus avoid the need for a lift and associated high roofline
