There is an area of paviors immediately outside my garage so very little gravel gets caried in, as long I keep the paviors swept or blown off with the blower.
yes I did note that before I posted.

Like everything though, stuff needs constant maintenance. Gravel needs raking every 3 or 4 months because it gets leaves and twigs in it where the bloody squirrels rampage in the trees and the paviors go black unless I jet wash them of spray with wet-n-forget and... I'm not very good at the maintenance side of things! biglaugh

p.s. the garage doors were some awful shade of sun bleached pink; they're white now!

The garages on here are an absolute dream. Mine is full of total crap that gets damp as soon as it rains. Are new build garages always so hopelessly crap at keeping moisture out? My dartboard is basically a layer of mould, and I've seen tools develop some rust as well. I'd love to damp-proof it but I don't know how, or what is cost-effecting. Running a dehumidifier seems like a) a waste of energy and b) not actually addressing the issue, rather masking it.

what, you mean you didn't wipe them down with an oily rag before you put them away?
Or were you being dramatic? biggrin

That's a lovely thing, and very similar to what I'd like to build. Do you have a rough ballpark for cost?
We had our quote split into groundwork and then the building, as the ground before sloped a lot and dropped a few feet. Local one man band guy did the lot (buys unplaned timber and effectively makes his own bespoke kit to assemble on site), and was a turn key quote as opposed to the usual method of buying a kit, getting a builder to do base work to spec, then getting kit installed with just a roof skeleton, then having to employ a roofer.

Excluding the groundwork is mid 30's. Doors are included, he's just finishing them off. All built to my chosen dimensions of 6.5m wide by 6m deep which after taking off the structure thickness falls just within the 36m2 internal floor area maximum so I didn't need planning or building regs (at the back of our plot and still in from the boundary).

Posts are 8 inch square oak and very substantial. A lot of 'kits' offered online or from national firms are 6 inch square so quality does vary a lot.

I'm ecstatic with the result and worth every penny to me.

Pic is of doors in progress. These are Accoya so won't expand or contract with water like oak would so no need for seasonal door adjustment.

Thanks for the detail, it's appreciated.

Loving this thread, great to see everyone's creativity!

Been at my place for 4 years so its around where I want it for now, all done ready for building the car. Has stairs to a room above so has plenty of storage underneath.

First thing I did when we moved in to our new build was paint the garage.......priorities!

What did you use for the flooring? I’d love to do something similar to mine!

Too close to the boundary to use permitted building regs?

It's in front of the property line so needed for full PP

I suspect we may end up having to compromise on either size or materials but we'll see what they say. There is previous (now lapsed) PP for a three bay car port by the gate entrance which originally was declined (the PP was for conversion of the existing garage + the carport with store room above) but went through on appeal.

So although our proposal is for a larger building it is for a lower height, we are placing it closer to the stream (albeit in the same place we currently park our cars)

Hopefully the previous successful appeal will help persuade them that it should get passed yes

I've had an empty garage for the last few weeks so I finally got around to a spruce up. Nowhere near the best garage but I'm really pleased with the result.

Love the units, where are they and the workbenches from?

In case the poster doesn’t see this, I can tell you that the cabinets are Sealey Premier. The workbenches I am unfamiliar with. But they may also be a Sealey product.

The work benches are the result of having a fine furniture maker as a mate. They’re wonderfully over-engineered. The top is just cheap Howdens, more of a consumable.

And yes, the units are Sealey Professional, I’m pleased with their finish and vfm.

Can you tell us a bit about the floor and how you layed it.
Selected Ecotiles after trying a few samples, great quality and they also seemed to be the only one offering light/dark grey rather than the usual black/grey. Very simple to lay, no adhesive, just interlock together. Cut the edges leaving 5-10mm depending on the temperature and away you go. Took around 2 hours.

If I was doing it again, I’d hire/source a guillotine rather than saw, it created a hell of a mess.
This looks really good to my eyes. I really fancied putting a wooden floor down in mine as per another poster on this thread but I have a gravel driveway and I don’t think it will work properly.

Can you confirm the Ecotiles style and colours you chose as I think I will try to replicate yours!

Planning permission granted!

The base is being installed in mid July, so hopefully all done by the end of August. It's about 90sqm in size

Lucky you! We got a flat "no" at pre-planning for a 12x6m barn like garage.
