Who has the best Garage on Pistonheads?

Got the keys to the new place today. First double garage, and the old nails have had a good go at destroying my jumper. Oh and one of the greyhounds has already christened the place by pissing in front of the door within five minutes.
Quick update on mine. Countdown to the two cars arriving from storage at the end of next week, so I’m trying to get some essential bits done before then
I have some painting completed like the internal doors (left is my office, right is a loo), but still have to finish the walls
New modular flooring arrived last week, and even though the floor is sealed I didn’t like the original light green colour and didn’t fancy redoing it. Instead I’ve gone with https://tuff-tile.com/. Great service and seems to be a quality product. I’ve laid the majority down, so I can at least get the cars in there, but will have to go at the remaining ones with the jigsaw and compete all the edges
A couple of other things I’ve had to deal with are more weather related. It was pretty cold in there in the new year, so I’ve added a few oil-filled smart radiators, which I can control from my phone. However I’ve hardly used them since
The bigger issue seems to be humidity levels given how wet it’s been lately. I’ve added a dehumidifier, again controlled via the mobile and on a continuous drain, and it’s doing a good job. However, I think the source seems to be from over the top of the two roller doors, where there is a 1.5 inch gap across the width of each of them. Good for airflow, seemingly bad for condensation. I’m going to try resolve this by attaching some door “brushes” across the top, which will hopefully provide something of a seal but not affect the door operation, especially the automatic one. Will see how that goes, or if anyone else has experienced similar and has a solution then suggestions will be gratefully received
Anyway, starting to get excited about the cars turning up next week (MINI GP1 & 968 CS) and having them on my doorstep

Day one of my garage transformation started yesterday.
It’s a new build large double 6.0m wide x 7.3m deep internally, for context here is the 340i parked in it
Unfortunately it doesn’t look as empty as that now with everything needed to go in the garage (kids clothes, storage, whatever the wife deems unfit to live in the house etc) so I need to go up in to the loft for storage.
Due to the span of the roof (and the way it is built, 3x joists joined with plates to get to the span across each truss) technical architect has worked through a plan that involves steel beams to support the roof space so we can go up.
Metal beams arrived today
And drilled, sawed, bashed the supporting holes for them to support the roof. They are 6.1m in length so a tiny bit of bowing in middle which will need to think about packing on.
As you can see I boarded the loft while waiting for beams to turn up, probably should have waited to add weight to the loft but got impatient
But excited to get this all started to reach the dizzy heights of some of the garages in this thread

Thanks all.
Pete, I did something similar with my garage 1 above. It was W frame before. I also have an office above (where the mtbs are).
If you want any photos of the structure they created to replace the W frame and put the room in, let me know.
Rich, for those that weren't on this thread a few years ago or are new to PH's, are you videos still on YouTube? Pete, I did something similar with my garage 1 above. It was W frame before. I also have an office above (where the mtbs are).

Hi budUnfortunately not. I got sick of social media full stop and binned off all of my personal accounts and the garage blogs two years ago. Dont miss it at all.
Any particular video you were thinking of? I might be able to link it. There’s the build video for the second garage might be of interest?
Leins, humidity. Oh how I hate mild, cold, mild, cold weather.
So the one mistake I made with my garages is that garage 1 has a diesel heater and garage 2 has aircon to heat it.
I’ve cold tiles meant I got humidity when the temp changed.
I run 3 dehumidifiers in garage 2 and two in garage 1. All hoses so they flow outside. I just flick them on when the weather changes.
Wish I had put underfloor heating in but I’m buggered if I’m pulling all those tiles up now.

I'd be very interested to see this if you don't mind? I'm currently trying to work our how to change some of them in my garage so I can put a lift in.Pete, I did something similar with my garage 1 above. It was W frame before. I also have an office above (where the mtbs are).

Are you building a room above or just storage? MrBig said:

Yep, would be keen - future project for sure as have thought of going dormer windows and office up there in the future...
Pete - I have similar walls in my garage (smaller at 32ftx14ft). Are you going to do something with them as I am looking for ideas - the simpler the better?_Leg_ said:

Thanks Leg. I went with an ElectiQ one: https://www.electriq.co.uk/p/desd9lw/electriq-desd...So the one mistake I made with my garages is that garage 1 has a diesel heater and garage 2 has aircon to heat it.

It’s a desiccant one so supposedly better for working with low temperatures, and it’s been doing a good job. Once it goes below the target humidity level it goes into a standby mode, and with the continuous drain (into a sink currently) I can just leave it alone to do its business. Ideally though I need to improve the situation, but it’s a balancing act of having a bit of air flow through the garage but that causing the condensation. Maybe sealing it up as best I can but keeping the air moving is the best approach
Out of interest, what target humidity level do you set your ones to? I’ve gone with 55% but no idea if that’s too high, or good enough to stop seals drying from heat, etc

For now it is to put all the storage in the roof, but also to leave some space for a little temporary games snug (I am picturing a full model railway and scalextric up there , my wife is probably imagining something else). Tech architect was worried about lateral load of people moving around and this was the solution that worked mathematically to support the load and use.
I was thinking of a model railway too at some point, perhaps on a small mezzanine level. I have the ceiling height for it, but I’m debating whether I want to put a 4-post lift in at any stage in the future. I can fit both cars in on the floor as it is, albeit with a little manoeuvring, so all a lift would do is free up some room at the back of the garage (not enough for a third car) that I probably wouldn’t use anyway as there are garage doors at both endsWhat I am planning though is a small bar area at the side. I know lots of folks like a very functional garage, but I’m not the best with the spanners. I just fancy a spot where I can have a beer and watch the rugby on the telly with my cars (and the dog if he’s well behaved)

Looking at their web site I can see that they suggest the 8 litre one is good for a 4 bed house but I wonder what that translates to in terms of an outside building? I have a brick built 3 car garage 45 sqm area. What size is your garage and do you have the 8L or the 10L? Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
