A bit like last weeks Renault 9, this is just a bit too much of a shed. Was trounced by 406 Mi16s and 21 Turbos of the time IIRC. A mid 80's Silvia would be a better shed!

I found one, a 91 AWD, called a Camry over here in the US.
Not quite.

The Camry is a Toyota which was also available over here.

I drove my dad's Bluebird a few times and I do not remember them liking corners very much. Exiting a roundabout reminded me of trying to put my cat into its basket to go to the vets.

Neither really wanted to go there.

yes

My Dad had a 1.8GS years ago which I used to hoon around in soon after passing my test.

The steering was so over-assisted it just wasn't true. No feedback whatsoever, either. I wonder if the power assistance was turned down at all for the sporting ZX Turbo model?

My friend at college had one of these and I was very impressed by the power and speed hehe (but then I was driving a 1.3 sunny at the time!)

I clearly remember him topping 100 MPH on the M27 which was pretty awesome when your own car had a Vmax of about 80 MPH!

A very unusual and respectable shed.yes

Yep. Back in late 80s/early 90s work colleague (btw, I still work for essentially the same company!!!) had a light blue metallic (remember that colour that these came in?!) 1.6ZX hatchback as a company car.

I done a few errands in it and I couldn't believe how over-assisted and light the steering was. It felt as if the column coupling had broken! Felt like you were on ice all the time. You simply DARE not push it round a tightish corner - no steering weighting whatsoever!

It made the other company car's - a Citroen BX 1.9 Estate - steering feel like an Integrale's! [quoted for effect]. And that is saying something (as the BX also had ludicrously over assisted steering).

I did actually have a decent example of one of these in stock back in 1999, I have to admit I re-call thinking that it was quite an underated car!

I struggled to sell it though, and to this day I still can't understand why?LOL

Bravo PH!

Another obscure-yet-magnificent SOTW! I think we had all forgotten how many boxy torbo saloons there were in the 80s, great to see there are a handful still on the roads and ready for some love.

I used to own a gorgeous black Nissan Bluebird Executive Turbo - front wheel drive but I really liked it in spite of being a big RWD fan both then and now... Car was fully loaded and even had inflatable leather seats! I'll post a photo if I can find one and I think you'll be surprised how good it looks smile Car handled pretty well, although there was sod all steering feel - I think it may even have had adjustable suspension...

My first car was similar vintage to this, albeit a 2 litre diesel. Have vague memories of trying to max it out (innocent times, clearly) - sat at an indicated 97mph for all of two miles. Getting my passenger to put out his cigarette and roll up his window yielded another 2mph. Still hold a soft spot for them, and like some here I find myself strangely drawn to that particular shed.

When are people gonna leave their mint original jap cars alone?

Its very sad to keep seeing lovely original jap turbo wagons like this, the Supra, RX7 etc that are modded.

Just leave them standard - please. No aftermarket steering wheels, wheels, intakes, exhausts etc.

Buy a few and keep them in bubble wrap if you're that bothered.

yeh, only in around 2002 my friend bought a brand new golf gti that vw managed to give a whopping 150bhp from a 1.8 turbo.

those hooligans eh.

Mitsubishi Starion was in production until the early 90's.

150bhp from a 2.6L Turbo engine.

i never make a comment but i was reading this ad few days ago and now its sotw so i would like to share my experiances i remember these cars my older brother had few of these as he is in hes fourties and we are from the asian indian region lol my last memory of it was my brother used to give me a fiver to wash hes car every weekend as he used to commute to work by london transport and i was thirteen at the time and i was getting the hang of driving i never took it over gear 3 as i didnt know at the time (WELL SCARED) but the drive and the precise steering handling was like a dream that i wanted to own one this car_ (well a g reg hatchback version) made me the driver i am today so thumbs up for this legend lookswise like others say "it is strangely attractive" yes it is but i would give it 4/10 but drive wise i would give it 8/10 i would like to own one but i will rather go for a mint condition s12 silvia 1.8 turbo as it could become as popular as corrola ae86 in the coming days so i got my eyes set on that but one day maybe i would get a bluebird hatchback version paint it army camouflage green and stick a scaffolding pole out of the sunroof diagnally so it looks like a army tank lol thats my joke project as i project jap car for performance for looks and speed so thumbs up FOR BLUEBIRD and my trip down memory lane

THe B/bird Turbo (U11) previous to this one are ultra rare and far more sporty.Reckoned less than 20 survive in UK- and i ain't seen one for two decades
Also very rare is that early ZXs of the one for sale are also known as SR.
Bluey Turbos were no where as quick as their rivals- and a 5dr Sunny zx/Gti would be a far better bet.
We raced friends Bluey Turbo in our Citroen BX 16V - in 3rd gear Citroen made
the Bluey Turbo look as if it was standing still.
Oh and no such thing as a 240ZX
