So a car with slightly more horses for sale in another country.

How desperate for news stories are the writers of this site?

Let me get this right, This car is basically a GTI Edition 30, with a re-map, and some extra toys. hahahaha, yeah that real special GTI, I think VW are taken the piss.

its not an edition 30 upped 10bhp, its a GTI upped 40 - 50 bhp.

Pointless if you ask me. Just dont see the point in this car at all.

Am I missing something....why is this cheaper than the 230bhp version? It doesn't have a lot more but its still more so it should cost more shouldn't it?!!

Just Holland? That sounds a bit random!
It does make sense though: we know the Dutch are a bit mental, and you'd have to be to fork out €35k for this.

Have you driven them both? The Leon is over-stiff at the front, very crashy, and looks cheap inside. The Golf is a lot better than the price differential suggests it should be...

Why not buy a standard GTi and fit a Revvo chip, it`ll give all and mre probably for far less. Having driven a Edition 30, I much prefer my chipped GT Tdi 140, although the GTi has better turn in response due to the lighter engine, other than that....do not even mention fuel consumption.

Excellent story....

Got any other news completely irrelevant to a UK audience?

I hear there's a special edition of the Lada, available with 35 bhp, but only in Siberia...

Because to the vast majority of people they dont want modified cars they want a std car so if they want that power they will pay for that car.

Whats all this get it remapped nonsense - its a tiny minority of people who do this to their cars & an even small number of buyers who want to buy it remapped.

Bear in mind that the GTI engines have changed subtly since the 200bhp version came out. The edition 30 basically has the same engine as the S3 complete with the S3s bigger turbo, and can be easily chipped to over 300bhp compared to the vanilla GTI only being chipable to 250bhp due to its smaller turbo.

This new model may have the the edition 30 engine remapped slightly, or the all new FSI which has a timing chain instead of belt (plus many other changes).

Got to say that I'm with you on this Welsh but they are a vocal minority who frequent internet fora more than most - so stand by for a flaming! hehe

Is this right? The new VW's will be chain rather than belt driven cams?
If so THANK GOD. Running costs will be reduced by £500 every 3 to 4 years.

yes Good point. Nasty interiors though.
but better brakes and suspension.

The ED30 already has that engine though and if you RR'd it would make the same power as the leon cupra. They are all family of the Audi S3 engine, each of them remap to the same figure, 310bhp.

Are you sure about the suspension? When I test drove the new Cupra I found the ride very firm, far harsher than a Focus ST and my BMW 130i. I've not driven a MkV GTI but I thought that they were roundly praised for their ride/handling. Brakes were good though (as they are on the Mk1 Leon Cupra R which I've also owned).

Suspension is hard but less crashy than the FR. Granted the Golf is less crashier than the FR also but the cupra does handle better than the GTI and FR.
