Who cares? its only available in Holland - You'd think after 30 years VW's marketing dept might realise they can sell them in more than just 1 market - Same thing happened with the Mk1 Golf GTI - initially it was left hand drive special order only until VW waved the white flag and made them a mainstream model - they also did the same thing with the Scirroco 16v
The Scirocco 16v was never made in RHD, though; the Corrado G60, however, was launched in LHD over here and the RHD versions followed a year or so later.

Don't know why everyone's going on about the grey bits on the bumpers - IMO they suit it and it looks much better than the Ed30, but ignoring my opinion, these are clearly library shots of a normal GTI (since it's on German plates), and that's had the same bumpers for 4 years. If this is an upgraded normal GTI it may well look similar, but since these aren't pics of the Dutch special edition anyway, we can't tell rolleyes

The one thing I can't discover from the article or pictures is what makes it 'special'. To me it looks like just another dull Golf, and as has been said, you can already buy a cheaper and better looking version in the UK - the Seat Leon.

qutote from the artical "The Golf VI isn’t far away but that doesn’t mean VW can’t just in a few special editions before number V disappears."

Isn't there a word missing in this or am i missing something??

Exactly right, and save a few quid on even the basic GTI 197bhp

It is not based on the Edition 30 as mistakenly mentioned.

It is a 'normal' GTI with a remap (probably Abt) offered by the Dutch importer.
Is also includes the 'Advance' option package which is an 1.595 EUR option on the Golf here. This includes the bi-xenon lights, PDC and the light/rain sensor. The sensor is standard on the GTI though, which is probably why this packages is 200 EUR cheaper on the GTI than on other Golfs.
Furthermore it includes a Pioneer touchscreen navigation. As an extra option after-market leather with GTI 240 stitching is available for 995 EUR.
The kickplates include a number as well as a keychain.

The extra price for the GTI 240 is 1.445 over the normal price. So basically you get some discount on the 'Advance' package, and a remap, navigation and fancy badges chucked in for free.

Cars are delivered from stock, so limited choice in colors, and in 3 or 5 door, no DSG and not possible tot specify any other factory options. So basically just an edition to clear out the Golf V GTI stock

Golf GTi does look much more executive over the LCR, the old LCR vs Mk4 Golf GTi the LCR had it licked totally without any issue.

Bear in mind that the GTI engines have changed subtly since the 200bhp version came out. The edition 30 basically has the same engine as the S3 complete with the S3s bigger turbo, and can be easily chipped to over 300bhp compared to the vanilla GTI only being chipable to 250bhp due to its smaller turbo.

This new model may have the the edition 30 engine remapped slightly, or the all new FSI which has a timing chain instead of belt (plus many other changes).
Is this right? The new VW's will be chain rather than belt driven cams?
If so THANK GOD. Running costs will be reduced by £500 every 3 to 4 years.
I bet you'll need to change the tensioners still though

I think the Seat is a better looking machine - I never liked it to start with but the leon shape has really grown on me - thats not to say I don't like the look of the golf, because I also think its a great looking car

Optician jokes must be the new 335d(mapped).

Oh well.

My criticism is that the Golf is tediously dull, the only area where it is actually better than the Leon is the interior, which is nothing to write home about.

Personally I would buy a used edition 30 as better looking with body coloured bumpers. Then for a bit of madness have it super chipped to 307bhp and 400nm although probably go for bluefin so can take of the map for rainy days to avoid accidents lol.

Excellent story....

Got any other news completely irrelevant to a UK audience?

I hear there's a special edition of the Lada, available with 35 bhp, but only in Siberia...
clap Exactly what I was thinking.

Just to add my input to this debate; got an Edition 30, bought Bluefin from Superchips so now has just under 300bhp. Can switch it on and off, which is ideal with this lovely British summer - wet roads and FWD with that much power is just a bit toooo much at times! A single market edition is end of range marketing trick, used by all manufacturers right back to the old days of my youth - and that was a long time ago...eek So those people that live in the flatlands can pay their money and take their choice, me I'll stick with what I have ta (thats until Oct 2009, when my Black Edition GTR arrives when power will be king!)

that's fair enough.

i still think it's terrible. only the utter horror of the new ibiza makes it look okay.

i liked the old LC and LCR and think they still look better, certainly better quality, than the current one.

the ideal model from this platform for me would be an octavia vRS 240 wagon!

My LCR was a competent rather than brilliant machine (Focus ST kicks its arse) but damn it was a good looking thing.

New Leon kicks the LCR's ass too, and the ST's. Looks seem to be hate it or love it. Those that loved the LCR hate the new Leon Cupra. Atleast its less boring than the GTI and the interior isnt bad, considering what you are getting for your money.
