Am I the only one who gets a little sad when I see a mk1 MX5 in what looks like a state of neglect - i.e being driven yet covered in scratches, dents, damaged roof, etc, or filthy and parked under a tree or something frown They deserve better!
You'll love mine then - the guy from the insurance co repairing it says it is a great little car, one of the best kept examples he has seen (thumbup for the polish MattOz).
paperbag Mine's in a dire state. It needs some cash thrown at it to tidy things up.

After years of dismissing this car as a 'haridressers car' I am now considering buying a mk1 mx-5 for around the 2k mark. Question is, should I consider an import, or stick to a UK model? And is the 1.8 really worth buying over the 1.6? Any advice from mx-5 owners would be appreciated???......
I wonder how many people haven't spotted the entire forum section dedicated to the Mx-5? All your questions shall be answered there!

Woops! Didn't see that. Snotrag, have you now bought an mx-5? If so, what did you end up with? What do you reckon to it?

Nope, still working on it. I've been to see a few over the past few weeks.

About, ohh, a month ago I was in the ' I think i'm gonna get one camp'.

Now, im in the 'just waiting for the right one to come along' camp. I've fallen head over heels in love with the idea. I'm after, ideally ,I think,a base spec 1.8 UK car. Id rather get the bigger engine and no toys, than a special edition 1600, as things like braces/fancy steering wheels/leather seats can all be purchased on ebay and what have you afterwards. And making it my own is hlaf the reason I want one.

I've got the cash in the bank, and Im on trader/ebay every day hunting. Soon, soon.

Get a test drive in one. Some people think thats theres a bit too much MX5 love in this forum, but I 'get' it totally now. You will love it.

I went for a 1.8 import - as mine is a daily driver I appreciate the extra toys. A/C is more useful than you would think for demisting and when you have to have the hood up on a hot day - black fabric makes it stifling inside! Plus you get the torsen LSD as standard.

Not driven a 1.6 which I understand is more revvy, but the 1.8 is a nice engine and 130bhp is a good start in this car wink

hehe Indeed. When I finally get a rag top, it's never going to be up. Though I suspect my mates may have some objection to that.

Oh FFS not again!

It's my bloody car and I'll do what I want with the roof!

I'm talking about having the car loaded up and stuff on the back shelf, or doing a long motorway drive, or if sunburnt from previous day's top-down hooning!

Plenty of reasons for top up on nice day.

To be honest I do go out on the occasional hoon with the roof up redface Usually when it's dark and a little bit chilly, or during the day when it's not that pleasant, but dry enough for a hoon.

Roof comes down as soon as the sun's out though, or the temperature is respectable wink

I did used to wonder about some people's motives for buying a roadster and never having the top down.

However, after peeling the skin off my forehead in one large patch, I saw the light

and bought a baseball cap.

Get yer roof down! biggrin

Driving my MX5 Euphonic for the first time was such a thrill. Even more so, because it was in summer. No, it's not quick (1.6) but it feels great. No more boring understeer. Wet road+ no traffic + roundabout = big fun!
