Heated seat on a Mk.1!?
Indeed. I always assumed that involved a hot water bottle and a 12v kettle...

We also had a Civic Type-R when we bought the MX-5. The Civic had bags more grip, was much, much quicker and had a far superior engine and gearbox. And I found that the MX-5 was more fun to drive. To condemn it for a lack of grip or power is to really miss the point, IMO.
Never driven either car but reading this post makes me want to drive the MX5 - good post.

The Civic might impress with outright speed and technical quality, but the MX-5 trumps it every time when it comes to fun factor. For me, corners in the Civic Type R are just an obstacle to the fun the car provides, because you may well come out of V-TEC range. It also has the slightly frumpy FWD handling. In the MX-5, every corner feels like an event and makes you feel like Miki Biasion. The MX-5 stands out clearly as the driver's machine when the two are compared.

I don't see the point of the heated seats as the heater itself is so good; less than a mile and it is completely warmed up.
The heater is better than any other car I have owned, including several Saabs that had, oddly, very poor heaters; especially the post GM models (Opels in drag with all of the bad and none of the good).
I've got a Seat Ibiza Tdi Fr that takes forever to warm up and never gets your feet warm. A Ford Focus is better but still not up to the Mazda.

Unashamed plug for a local MX5 specialist - Andy who does the mechanics is very good indeed!
