I remember being told by someone I was in 6th form with that his car (was a first car, so a Corsa 1.2 or some such) had 16 valves per cylinder!hehe
I almost pissed myself laughing when he said he'd done 140mph in it. :hehe@

My so-called friend (a 17 yr old girl) owned a Fiat Cinquecento, apparently capable of hitting 90mph on a small straight near my house. I once sat in as a passenger, needless to say it didn't do anything like this, although I can safetly say I've never been so scared in my life. It was like sitting in a tupperware box on wheels and I swear I'm never getting in a car with her again.

hehe

But you can hit 90mph if it's downhill and you're in the Sporting model. They're not that bad. Good fun, too, once you're used to the fact that a 4'6" dizzy mother in her Cayenne would kill you in the blink of an eye while she's telling her wonderful Joshua off for dropping his lolly on the rear leather passenger seats.

Yeah I have to admit, now I'm over the whole fear of death thing, I did drive it around a bit and its suprisingly agile, even if you do feel on the brink of rolling it biggrin

Two things spring to mind...

A work colleague once proudly told me that his Ford Fiesta 1.25 was capable of 0-60 "In around 4 or 5 seconds".... It was completely standard........ I don't think he can count very well.. redface)

Secondly, ANOTHER work colleague bluffing that his MG ZT with the 2.5 v6 was "Up to 140 the other day... And there was another 20 or 30 to go".... Mmmm.... 160-170 from a Rover made with parts from Halfords? redface)

'friend' at work, has a supra TT, quick car for it's day i'm sure, and very capable if modded - but for him to tell me his 0-60 is the same as my old E55 amg - 5.5 supercharged V8 somehow I find it hard to beleive! Seems to beleive he raced an E46 M3 and kicked it's ass.... very impressive for a bog standard Supra 3.0 turbo!

Reminds me of a friend of mine who had a 2000 Vectra Estate 1.8 130bhp that could apparently do 0-60 in 7 seconds, at which point i asked how when my 2000 Vectra Hatch 2.5 V6 170bhp could do it in only 7.7 seconds, this was possible.

His reply: You musnt be driving it properly, um yeah right lol

There was one lad at school who was as thick as a sack of spuds. Anyway bumped into him a couple of years back and started talking cars. Was absolutely hilarious!

He claimed he bought and sold smashed Evos etc, repaired them (cos his neighbours a mechanic innit) and tuned them up all at home. Sorry mate, but aside from never seeing any Evos around his street (no garage either), an evo has so many electronic systems etc that it isn't the best car for the dim witted fool to be working on.

The best bit was when he started telling me about his Escort cosworth. Fair enough it had the whale spoiler etc, however 2 problems. We had all seen it driving around sans spoiler when he first got it and second, it was a 1998 on an R plate- slightly missed the Cosworth boat there.

Having a look around stock 320bhp 0 - 60 4.6 and will hit around 180mph in standard trim which I would imagine would come pretty close to the merc and would most likely beat a E46 M3 just but probably not kick its ass as he described.

was working with the owner of this a few weeks ago....

....he told one lad it used to have a 300 bhp 2.0 turbo engine and me that it was a V6...then the following week he'd put it back to a 1.8 because he was getting pulled all the time. I over heard him telling someones else he had a fiesta that was fitted with a cosworth engine...that was FWD
Could anyone take anything he said seriously?

I can understand people who pretend they own flash cars, we all day dream about trashing around the alps in a Lamborghini or something similar. But I went to college with a guy who's rich uncle (why is it always the uncle?) - who owns four Lamborghinis and two Hummers - decided to buy him his first car, a "Mitsubishi Warrior". It could happen, I suppose.
After a while we demanded to see this brand new pick-up truck, unfortunately he had already been driving it (before passing his test) at 100mph down the road that goes through the middle of town has speed bumps all the way along it several sets of traffic lights that are perminantley red AND is has just a 20mph limit. The police caught him doing this and his punishment was simply "to stay out of Crewe," where the offence "took place". So he did and the amazing pick-up truck now lives on someone's driveway in Manchester.

It could happen.

The rich uncle thing went wrong for me a kid at school claimed his uncle had a Zonda and we all just laughed at him then a few months ago he got picked up in a bright orange Zonda F and just laughed as he pulled away we all soon shut up laughing at him after that at. Saying that someone I know even beat that as at her prom she got dropped off in a Veryon! sure beats the limo we had lol so just shows sometimes the rich relative story may be true.

That not exactly his fault though more jaguars for saying it could actually do it knowing that not many prospective owners would have the balls to see if the claim was correct. What speed could they actually hit really around 135?

a friend of mine is blindily convinced that engine capacity has nothing to do with speed its how many valves it has.

he has a 16 valve 1.25 zetec and reckons it will beat 8 valve 1.4's and 1.6's

also says that undoing the radiator cap when car is at full operating temp will reduce pressure in the radiator and make the car faster.

he gave me a lift home and saw my car and went, 'wow, thats a st car'
so which i asked why and he said 'its only an 8 valve'
i told him it was a 1.6 and he said 'mine would still beat it as its a 16 valve'

i cant be bothered telling him he's wrong

so i'll just sit back and laugh

(i know that both mine and his cars are terrible in the grand scale of things thus i will not lower myself to accept his challenges)
