the Aussie PC brigade are now poised to deploy noise cameras across their road network – begging the obvious question, when will they arrive here?
Raising the question.

No logical fallacy in the premise.

i've just done a search on the source of this story and it seems that pistonheads has managed to leave out some of the facts.

the noise cameras are for commercial trucks and are being used to enforce regulation against engine compression breaks, they will not be used for cars but can easily be expanded to include loud subwoofers, noisy exhausts, or even an inopportune honk of the horn - to quote from the article.

Unfortunatly most 'tuning enthusiasts' put 'sports' exhausts on their cars/bikes as their first 'upgrade', despite the fact that they have no idea wether it actually improoves their stboxes' performance. It just sounds louder. This puts them clearly in the league of antisocial retards imho.
Couldn't agree more, wise words yes
+50 marks

If this new "noise camera" can manage to put the mockers on the scooter-twunt-brigade, then I'm all for it!

Are we talking about coming off the gas and using engine braking to slow down? I've never noticed that to be particularly noisy unless you're doing silly high rpm's in a med/low gear. Even then it's a damn sight quieter than wide open throttle. I'm still confused.

Ah, but todays 'ped warrior is tomorrow's petrolhead...
Exactly. I had a moped (it had gears, but was a moped). It had a K&N, loud pipe, was bored out to 65cc......then i had a 125, then a 250, then a 350, then a car, then i tuned that, then another bike, then.....

I'm now 36 and own two cars and a bike. Only one is standard and quiet.

So take your pedboy snobbery and stuff it up your arse smile

Ireland? eh? laws on cars.. The only law is that if you drive a tarted up car that everyone beeps and waves as you pass. It's the law that everyone, including police are nice to you. I'm possitive on that one.*

  • Well that's how it was on our two kit car trips to Ireland. I even had a lady in her 60s telling me I should turn up my stereo!

Thanks mate. Yes, I can understand why that would be a problem. Makes the roadside noise monitors appear a bit more sensible if this is what they are used to detect.

Function creep is an issue in the UK, so it wouldn't take long before some bright spark decided to do what most of us (well, some of us on this thread) fear by persecuting drivers of loud cars and bikes.

They have roadtrains out there, i expect something 53m long with 80 plus wheels makes a bit of noise!

your still missing the point i made on the last page that we dont need this to stop the noisy ped exhausts. THEY ARE ALREADY ILLEGAL IF THE RIDER IS 16 OR ON L-PLATES.

I think the most deafining sound I have heard from something small, is a plastic coffee cup.

Those thin white walled ones, with like concertina rings around it, squish it so both sides fold in, and stay in.

Hold it to your lug hole, and press the oposite sides so it suddenly reforms, blows you away. yikes
