And very nice it is too. I've always fancied one myself, but don't think I would be able to fit in it comfortably
Don't let being unable to fit stop you. I'm sure that a stupid amount of cosmetic surgery would enable to to fit in. Is vertebrae removal easy? Shaving a few inches off legs must be simple enough?I'm 6"2 with long legs and I manage reasonably well.
The cars with the large Riviera sunroof are the best to try, as it is wide enough to give you an extra inch of headroom.
And the roof tilts or lifts out completely, which resolves the headroom problem on dry days.
As far as legs are concerned, you can take the seat off its runners and mount it directly on the floor, but I haven't found this necessary.
My left shin is right up against the bottom of the dash rail, but that aside I can get sufficiently comfortable.
The very last high compression S3s had adjustable rake seats, but this doesn't seem to help much.
Pat, your white one is stunning. I have always fancied a "copy" of the Bond one, but with the red interior it looks even better. I love that..!!
When I was growing up there were only 3 cars that gave the full-on performance appreciated by racing drivers, according to the car magazines of the time. There was the Caterham, the Esprit and the Countach.
I've had Caterhams, and I want another, but if someone had a white Esprit for sale with the spec/condition of yours, I'd be sorely tempted.
Lovely.

I saw a white G reg S4 parked at Homebase the other day. Parked beside it and fantasised for a little while...
I do love the Esprit, i definately want to get one at some point to, i'm tending towards a V8 as i already have an excel, and an earlier car might feel a little to similarI saw a white G reg S4 parked at Homebase the other day. Parked beside it and fantasised for a little while...
On a side note, this car has been on sale for like 2 years now, first paul matty had it and he obviously could not shift it as he passed it on to Barry Ely, who's had it for at least a year aswell i think, if anyone really is interested i'd be looking to get a big drop on that sticker price

I always wanted one of these. But when the chance came to buy one,i went with a Cerbera instead.Still on my lists of cars to own.
The Cerbera would be my 2nd choice, but since their steering wheels are on the wrong side I didn't have to consider that option.Mine is an '87 HCi and ever since the Union Jack roofed Hot Wheel it's been my dream car. Lucky that the prices dropped to such attainable levels especially compared to such ugly contemporaries like the NSX and commonplace ones like 911's.

I wish Lotus would do a new S1 in the same mould as Ford 'redid' the GT40.
Surely they would sell like hot cakes?
The newer GT was bigger and heavier, not somnething any Lotus enthuasist would want. There would, I'm sure be a market, for a modern interpretation of an S1 though.Surely they would sell like hot cakes?

I think the catch is it would be unable to pass any current type approval requirements. Yes, the Ford GT was able to achieve this with very substantial investment and by being built much bigger than the original GT40. The Esprit was a big wide car to start with and if scaled up I fear it would become enormous.Beautiful car. I Have wanted one ever since riding in one at a very young age. I personaly love the shape of them all and the subtle variations. But my total fave is the s3 NA (thats why i bought one!.. which makes no financial sense at my age but oh well!) The s3 NA harks back to the more pure form of the S1 and also wont be as unreliable as the turbo (can of worms i know! It all depends on the individual cars, but the NA is cheaper to maintain parts wise.)
It really is a total joy to drive with sublime handling and ride, no body roll at all and plenty of poke even for a meager 2.2 NA. The attention the car gets is phenominal also, although that could be attributatble to my dashing good looks. I am 6'3 and fit inside, the sun roof gives an extra few inches as mentioned.
she's a stunner, see for yourself!;

Have always loved these cars and would love to get one. From what I understand the S3 was the better car but I prefer the looks of the S1 and 2 myself. Sadly the engine in these was a little short of power - is it possible to retrofit a turbo engine into the earlier cars or even do a V8??
