In depth research suggests this isn't an RS500.

Maybe he needed a new tailgate and a 500 one was available.

Unfortunately these badges are now available cheaply on eBay which has surely led to the rise of all these misbadged cars.

Very true but if they had to pay full whack for them from a dealer they may think twice.

This caught my eye. Not strictly misbadging as it does say Jaguar in the middle.

I didn't get to see the engine.

whatever it has in it ,it's not an RS500.

Who said replicas can't exist ?

It didn't have the correct front bumper so a very poor replica......biglaugh

There’s a certain level of smug that comes with spotting a ‘misbadged’ car.
M cars seem to be a firm favourite although BMW haven’t done themselves any favours to M division with all the varying badges on Boggo cars.
I know what you mean, I saw on instagram earlier someone posting pics of their new Merc CLA. Someone commented saying "ooh is it the 220?" and the reply was "yeah the AMG one". And she apparently "knows about cars" too. Unless it's a CLA 45, then no, it's not "the AMG one", it's a smelly derv in a tracksuit.

On the one hand you’re diluting the performance brand with M this and AMG that on standard models on the other you’re selling ‘performance insinuation’ to folk who for whatever reason dont go for the full fat model.

I can see the argument for both sides.

I remember when I had a civic type r as a youngster i use to spot type R badges on all sorts of different cars half of them weren’t even hondas. Go figure .

Yet to see an SVR badge on a standard range yet. That’s probably quite a niche market .

Found this one for sale

I mean I suppose it *is* effectively the Mondeo ST... but for whatever reason Ford decided not to call it that. Probably because they killed off any positive connection of the name with the Mk3 Mondeo STD. wink Still misbadged though.

Oh and pretty sure Mountune didn't do a kit for the Mondeo either.

Oh even went to the effort of an ST gearstick gaiter

Yeah I saw past the 3 litre engine, manual box, and comfort seats and went "oooo M badgezzzz must have it!!"

Also being told to take it like a man from someone called Stickyfinger is slightly disconcerting!!!

Thinking about it I have owned cars I could correctly have rebadged as Lemons.

Wish I had a camera yesterday. We're currently in Thassos, Greece, and yesterday I saw a Polo circa 10 years old, with a modern Audi grill on it. I nearly died laughing.
Wasn't the original Polo a rebadged Audi?

Petrol. Confusing.

Ah. A Fashion House Special Edition. I'd have opted for Hilfiger or Armani but then I'm not a marketing guru.

I just dont get it... its only petrol heads that will know what an AMG is and they will spot that it isnt an AMG when they look at it... so why bother?

Totally don’t get it. Why would you do that? Because you want to tell people it’s an Aston but then admit that it’s not?
