De badged obvious performance versions are cool.

I remember seeing an E34 Alpina Bi-Turbo with no badging at all on it. Just the wheels & body kit.
A peer though the window confirmed a genuine Bi-Turbo, digital gauges in the vents & everything.

Gorgeous.

Reproductions are available on eBay too, but they're not cheap. There's also a set for the E39 M5 with the lettering engraved. Bet that wasn't a commonly ticked option.

Was in Thailand a few weeks ago and spotted this... I guess the owner was in two minds between a BMW and an AMG...

Pretending is in vogue.
Pretending has never been out of vogue.

The egotistical and aspirational have been faking it with badges, watches, numberplates, designer labels and much else besides for decades.

I have a 1 series M sport, and have never once thought of it as anymore than what it is, a smart looking car that looks better than the standard car.

I understand that some people do need educating and that just because it says AMG or M or S line on it doesn't mean it's the full fat variant, but i don't get why some people get their tits in a twist over it, there is people out there like me who know exactly what they have and exactly what they don't have.
If the manufacturer stuck the M, AMG, R, ST or whatever on it then that’s what it is. They make them and sell them.

It’s not up to some blokes on the internet sat in their underpants to say what’s right or wrong.

I'm fairly confident that the 16 spoke alloys on the diesel ST Mondeo's are exactly the same as the ones on the ST220.
Aren't they 16s or 17s on the diesel Vs the 18s on the ST220? A chap at work had a Mondeo STD and the wheels looked somewhat tiddly despite being the same design.

I wonder why Ford never used that as the model name...

The ST220 and ST TDCi were identical on the outside bar the TDCi had 1 exhaust tip (fake as it still pointed down) and the ST220 had 2. The wheels were identical, 18" 225/40's.

A few years back, I saw two extreme examples of rebadging :

A black Ford Sierra RS Cosworth badged as a 1.6L. When it started up and drove off, it definitely had more than 1600cc under the bonnet.

A basic white 2 door Ford Sierra hatchback complete with Cosworth stickers, alloy wheels, front spoiler and rear wing. The pea shooter sized exhaust was a bit of a giveaway.

Ah but it is an real M car wink

It all makes sense now you’ve said you’ve a m340i on order. Sad really, there will be a photo of your car up here in no time fella. Sorry mr big shot with his new car on order, how smug you must feel losing 30% driving it off the showroom floor. I bet they put a ribbon on it to make you feel real special, whilst they laugh behind your back at what you just paid for it.

Haha I wouldn't worry, in another topic BenS discusses his love of Rover 75s and describes himself as looking like Fat bd from Austin Powers....

I'm also in agreement that a Z4M is far more of an M car than a m140/340i and lightyears ahead of any M-Sport. I also find it utterly tragic when I hear people say things like " My M Sport" when it's a 320d.

Someone locally was advertising an "M Sport BMW" for sale. It was a 218i, with the 3-cylinder 1.5 MINI engine.
