You can turn off the driving aids in all mercs past 05, and some before. You just need to put it in dyno mode.

Been out in a CLK black, that was a great piece of kit.
My problem with the SL black is the five speed box. The normal SL65 used to shread those boxes and the rear diffs after a couple thousand miles of spirited driving

I can never quite get over how such cars are revelled over by journos.
Ok I understand that it is massively powerful with torque to match but really Sutters "..hugely impressive" ??-for a car that costs (probably now with a crap £) nearer to £350 grand yet is effectively flawed. How can M-B & AMG produce a car in that league that, according to the article, appears to have barrels of understeer when it should handle like a train on tracks (mild understeer permissible).

The fact that it makes less pleasant noises than other cars, has a less than startling interior &, all-round sounds like not as good a buy as the CLK black suggests that it should be a "Not good enough AMG-go back & try again".

I reckon M-B are really trying it on just on the sheer brutality of their engine output & in this present climate I'm sure there's loads of other options for the fortunate few well-heeled to drool over..

I'm not normally a fan of modern-day Mercs but i think this one looks rather good. Would prefer it in black rather than bland silver.

However, it's an auto and for truely spirited driving i really can't get on with them.
I'm also not into Merc's tendency to over-assist with it's electronic aids. As in, you can't turn them completely off.
I suspect in these 'Blacks' you can turn off the aids. For me to buy on though, someone would need to spray it white and graft on the original front end.
Oh and someone would have to lend me a 1/4mil.
Bet you 50p you can't switch them off completely. biggrin
I'll have to look into it, rumour is tho-you can.

Saw the car testing at the Ring on the day when an Alfa 8C was lapping too. To all the nay-sayers - the MB is a thing of beauty. The sound from that V12 was sooo-much better than the Alfa's V8... The way it was accelerating out of Adenau Forst towards Metzgesfeld was epic - even Turbinia could not match it...

fk me! I have just spend 3 hours cruising around London in a Metallic Black SL65 AMG Black Edition....totally speechless what an amazing machine! JC was right the seats are the most uncomfortable things I have ever sat on....I've just had to have a pain killer as the torque on this beast just aggravated my tooth pain biggrin

The minute you step all the way down on the throttle the rears just refuse to thrust forward and instead start wiggling the backside of the car there is just soooo much power in this thing.. bow
