RE: Aston Vantage V12

It uses a transaxle, meaning the gearbox is mounted in the rear of the car, the v8's was in the front so probs the same weight over the front wheels.
Please who really cares about the wheels, they have just squeezed a 6L v12 into it the wheel designs not a big concern I would have thought. And if you've got a 100k+ to spend on this car pick different ones!
Funny because I always thought the gearbox in the V8's was in the back, along with the oil cooler for the gearbox that is mounted in the rear splitter. Maybe my stepdad's is an exception?? Anyway I read figures a while ago that performance times would be something like 0-100 in just over 8 seconds etc. But then again the car was supposed to have 600 bhp.....Please who really cares about the wheels, they have just squeezed a 6L v12 into it the wheel designs not a big concern I would have thought. According to the Autocar site the V12 Vantage will weigh 1680kg. In other words only 15kgs lighter than the DBS.
I really want to love this car but Aston please, if you can't make it lighter than the DBS, ffs give it more power!
Otherwise there's just no point. A DBS can be had with back seats so will be much more practical for identical performance.
A crumb of consolation is the rumoured £140k price tag which is a much lower list price than the DBS. In reality however you can get a DBS for under £120k.
So again, right now, I can't see the point.

Well it might handle much better than the DBS and it has a manual gearbox (can you get a DBS as a manual?).
I agree it's too heavy, but it might still have a place alongside the DBS. Strikes me as being a bit like saying the Cayman S has no place as long as the 997C2 exists (although I guess the price difference there is bigger).

Now THIS deserves the title "Vantage".
The V8 was (much) more show than go, sadly, which very much detracted from Aston's traditional values of "Walk softly and carry a big stick" and de-valued the company's image to me.
Glad to see that big-engine thuggery is alive and well at Aston - very nice package and the first Aston I have admired since the old Vanquish.
EVO magazine seemed to like it, too: the handling wasn't spoilt by the weight and the power...!

I know which one I'd get - in either case. I agree it's too heavy, but it might still have a place alongside the DBS. Strikes me as being a bit like saying the Cayman S has no place as long as the 997C2 exists (although I guess the price difference there is bigger).

A dodgy bodykit and some ste wheels, nice one aston. Far too heavy - the DBS is over a foot longer, but weighs the same?
Time for some new models I think, or are we going to get a DB9 V8 first...

And IMO this will NOT handle *much* better than the DBS - The DBS handles brilliantly already. It will feel different, but believe me when I say the DBS is one hell of a car. I really don't get AM's marketing strategy on this one, for £140K that's good, lightly used DBS territory.
