Mr Whippy: How's the 306 btw?
I sold my HDi one, after tinkering it to about 160bhp and 285lbft and making it eat Eagle F1's in about 6000 miles biggrin

Got a proper wheel drive car again now, yay wink

No, enough IS enough! If it bothers you so much why don't YOU ask Ford for the data you so crave? That would leave the rest of us to enjoy motoring wink Your like a bloody stuck record.
I will just wait for a decent magazine like auto motor und sport or the likes to do a test with measured data in there instead, then at least it is comparable data measured the same way smile

(on a side note, not sure why Evo stopped doing the corner weights vs claimed weights, dyno data etc in their reviews as it was quite interesting, hey ho frown )
They used WRC technologies for dyno data (and I suspect corner weight stuff) who went bust a year or so back.
That is a shame.

They should buy some kit themselves, or get a deal with a good local dyno to their offices... even if half the material never makes it to print it'd be nice to see online!

I want to see a road and track test with the Focus RS, Megane R26.R and Honda Mugen FD2 Civic Type-RR. I reckon the heavier and more practical RS might do very well against the opposition in pure lap times. I would still rather have the R26.R or FD2 though, but then I like my cars to be focused and exciting, like some practicality has been forsaken in the quest for performance and feel (fuel economy not withstanding).

A lot of people have mentioned the fact that the R26.R has only two seats, which I agree seems at odds with the point of a hot hatch. In reality though, I think I only had rear seat passengers in my Clio Trophy a couple of times and I left the rear seats out after a trackday for months once. Most people will probably use the rear seats in the Focus RS, as it's of a size now where people will buy one as a family car.

Personally I think I will desire an RS more when it becomes more focused, I think I would have liked it more if it weighed just a little bit less than the ST it is based on, 'dodgy' CF panels may have helped in this cause, but it was never going to be a featherweight with that Volvo engine. I think Ford have hit the nail on the head with their latest offering, their target audience has been well catered for and it does the numbers for pub car park top trumps. So, hurry up with the RS-R and when they come onto the used market in a few years I will be looking them up on here!

On second thoughts, how hard is it to remove the rear seats, fit perspex windows and harnesses? Job done.

I very much doubt ford will release a RS-R or anything more focused.

In fact I don’t think you can get much more focused unless you actually want a track car which you can do yourself by stripping it.

Ford have tuned the car in such a way that it is a double edged sword, good chariot for town use and super nimble hot hatch (all be it a big heavy one) for out of town action.

Steve,

Why a Mugen and not just a standard FD2?

Exactly, I mean its only the fastest around the Ford test track, the simpletons have only compared it to the Gen 3 Impreza and Evo X, they haven't even thought about Honda! Does anyone else think they should drop the turbocharger, interior quality and handling, and make it compete against the civic type R. I even thought up a name...Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fiesta ST.

Or just spending 10k less on a Lotus, 2 seat hot hatches are utterly pointless. As usual Renault have added a niche which really isn't much better than the full fat product at all.

whats the UK ETA for the RS ?

I've just read the EVO article with it against the R26R and it does a lot better than they'd anticipated, still say the weight goes against it in the end, but as a daily driver far better than the R26R - no suprises there then for practicality.

Which weighs so little as the body work is made of tin foil. Fart on it & it would fold in half.

I suspect another Troll.

Did you notice R32UK and VWR32 signed up specifically to post in this thread. Looks like Mr dimmapug lover has done the same.

I actually wonder if they're the same person.

laugh

You're on your 47th pug? Is that because the other 46 kept on falling to pieces?

ps. I don't think you have any "sad little car owners" worried. Theres always going to be one car out there quicker than yours. The same applies to you.

Pick up any spare parts for pugs dirt cheap, absolutely no reason to get rid ov them apart from for money, you could pay me a million quid to drive a ford, I wouldnt, rubbish! Give me a 205 any day, il blow 99.9% of you in the weeds smile

Can I just point out from a fellow 205 owner (your giving us a bad name by the way) that there is no way your 205 weighs 765kg especially with a dimma body kit, try adding another 100kg.

Also you need to realise the limitations of a 20yr old car light they may be but grip is a long way behind a modern car, so no your car will not 'cane' a 300bhp 1.5 ton car.

I can vouch for this from experience.

The 205 GTi is still accepted as one of the best handling cars EVER, something you just cannot get from a ton and a half of metal, you do not feel the road the car drives it for you, give me some feeling and proper useable power anyday of the week, currently drive stdt for work, uprated engine to 1.9 xantia td with fm intercooler, adjusted fuel pump which took 20 mins and iv got 134bhp to play with 167 ib/sqi torque and 50-55mpg in again about 800kg does about 0-60 in 6 secs same as the rubbish focus they are releasing now I certainly know which I would prefer from day to day, whole car with one owner and work iv done owes me £140 with one owner no dents no rust, perfect, with 10 months tax and mot in the price, bet you couldnt find a decent ford for that!!!smile lol
