Nope I wont, il do what I like thanks, you guys keep on thinking what you believe in and il keep on knowing what I believe in...

THE IMPORTANT FIGURE IN ANY POWER COMPARRISON IS BHP/TONNE AT PRESENT IV GOT WAY OVER 200BHP PER TONNE BUT IF CHANGED MY ENGINE WHICH I THINK MIGHT MAKE IT A LITTLE HAIRY ID HAVE OVER 300BHP PER TONNE, THIS FOCUS HAS 200 BHP PER TONNE END OF STORY THE FIGURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Thats part of a calculation relating to the performance of a car. Presumably you'll be wanting to use some of that power to weight in a bend. What comes into play then? What effect will weight, contact patch chassis have then? Not to mention air resistance at speed. Your 0-60 might be okish. But what about your 60-120 time?

wink It'll have more weight than that pushing down if the aerodynamics are working. As you have pointed you yours will be without body kit so possibly even producing lift. So correct me if I'm wrong but is it the wings on an F1 car that enable it to corner at speed or the weight....

Theres far more to making a fast track car than keeping the weight off. Although thats an easy start.

Lets get this in perspective ok, I am not getting into any argument regarding this but a stripped 205 like I have is quick in a straight line.

Mine has hopefully 210ish bhp when I get it sorted and in 850kg, he is right upto silly speeds the 205 would be quicker as it has over 250bhp/tonne and I know from experience that it is very quick upto the limiter in 5th.

Like any car a track prepared 205 with a good driver with decent power would be very quick round a track - just look at some of the videos on Youtube of them agains Evo's and the like thats what lack of weight does for you over suspension design.

But the point is these are specially modified cars built for that purpose, any other Corsa / Golf etc...lighter older car can be made to be very quick but thats not the point is it.

Trust me when I say that Focus RS with 300bhp and 1500kg would not annhilate a 200+bhp 205 in a straight drag - it wouldn't.

Oh and a 205 has a far better Cd than a Focus RS with all its aerodynamic appendages!! So drag at high speed isnt the issue!

But this is all pointless willy waving and comparing apples to oranges...again!!!

Blinding thread.

Generally speaking I dislike French cars for quite genuine reasons that I won't go into at this moment. I do however think that the 205 and 309 Peugeot's were cracking cars in their day and still make good driving cars today if properly looked after.

What anyone with any semblance of knowledge about these cars will tell you is that what completely and utterly ruins them is putting stuff like Dimma bodykits on them...!

Just because the car was built by the French division of Fisher Price, doesn't mean you have to add bits on that you got from a Kinder Egg...!

As for "Caning" Fords. Christ man. Modified car beats standard one. Wooooooooo....yawnnnnn...

If you wanna play that game, I suggest you ask uncle Rod if you can go up against his 20 year old Sierra taxi over a standing mile. I was going to suggest you might learn something, but I doubt it...! rofl

I was passenger in a 230bhp stripped 205 that got blitzed by a VW Tourag.

Well it's as pointless as all the rest of the bullst on this thread!

205 drag is 0.35
Focus RS is 0.38

How much difference can that .03 really make?

Not much!

Lets just say a light car with a decent amount of power is quick, and a heavy car with more power is also quick wink

Which is quicker is really not that relevant to this thread!!

(though i'd love to have a go on the 1/4 against a RS!)

Looking at your profile, i'm sure you'd give one a good go. Gotta admit, the 205 looks quite tasty. Very stealthy too.

As I and many have said, comparing track stripped car with a road going one is pointless, but lets get something in perspective.A Focus RS is quoted by Ford as 0-100 in 14 secs.Having been out in it my bum dyno thinks it's a bit quicker than that, wouldn't surprise me if it's a late 12's early 13secs to the ton car.Now back in the 80's a 1.9 205GTi was quoted for the same 0-100 at approx 22-24secs depending on what mag you read. It's gonna take a hell of a lot of stripping to lose 10 bloody seconds to 100 mph. And beforeanyone shouts, I'm not knocking anyones choice of car.

Once you get up to 3 figure speeds power-to-weight matters less and outright power and aerodynamics come into it. Hence lower powered Caterhams aren't that quick once you get towards 100 or so.
