I have a standard 205 GTI. If I was to drive several laps around Donington in that and then a Focus RS I would place a lot of money on getting quicker times in the RS.

This is merely a speculation having driven a standard GTI for 2 years and having given instruction to a friend at Brands in a tuned (to roughly 300ishBHP) Focus ST.

However I have fun in my 205 GTI, it cost me a grand and is cheap to run. Does that make it quicker? shoutNO

One fact that everyone has to remember is that with the money that those who have an RS on order will be spending on their car (a minimum of £24,995), they could build a track car that would whip most things. fk it, they could buy an Ariel Atom/Westifeld/Caterham, but those cars obviosuly don't suit their needs.
Performance aside, the RS is a far superior car to most hot hatches. I seem the remember reading that it scored a 5 star rating in the NCAP testing, and i'm sure this car will be used to transport many families around (and quite possibly at speed) so the safety of the car will be quite important to the buyers.

27 pages of garbage, one of the mods should put this thread out of its misery.

If you don't like it, then don't read it.

Apart from the trolls, this has been a good place to discuss the RS.
If they close this one, somoene will just open another one.

I didn't like the look of this car much....but all these great reviews make it sound awesome, dunno whether I'd choose one over a new STi, but oh well...

Saw a New Golf GTI Edition 30 at the local VW garage today....£23495....wow....that £1500 extra for the RS pays for itself

As I and many have said, comparing track stripped car with a road going one is pointless, but lets get something in perspective.A Focus RS is quoted by Ford as 0-100 in 14 secs.Having been out in it my bum dyno thinks it's a bit quicker than that, wouldn't surprise me if it's a late 12's early 13secs to the ton car.Now back in the 80's a 1.9 205GTi was quoted for the same 0-100 at approx 22-24secs depending on what mag you read. It's gonna take a hell of a lot of stripping to lose 10 bloody seconds to 100 mph. And beforeanyone shouts, I'm not knocking anyones choice of car.
He he, but mine not only has 50kg less it also has nearly 100bhp and 120lb/ft more than standard....

Anyways...I'd have both if I could afford a new RS, just for the noise really!! cloud9

I wonder what the next inappropriate comparison will be, Focus RS versus.....Nissan GTR! wink

IF YOU DONT KNOW THEN YOU SHOULD, I CHALLANGE ANY OF YOU TO A CIRCUIT IN MY 205 AGAINST ANY FORD PREPARED RUBBISH I ASSURE YOU I WILL WIN HANDS DOWN.
Any Ford ????
How about that Reyland Escort Cossie scratchchin Or possibly an RS200... Or probably a MK1 Escort Mexico would do.
Or Mr Shead
A Few Fords faster than Martins out their, Im sure Mr. Gallager with his Focus would give you a real Thrashing or try Harveys Gibbs new Escort track car.
Ive owned a 205 (a Turbo Technics conversion from new) its a great little car but fast it aint, now own, lets say a rather quick Cossie, you would probably poo your little nappies if I took you for a ride. Enjoy your car but get real about its potential.

Probably, I've just cancelled my GTR deposit and am considering the RS so might be in a position to talk absolute bks on it!

No you can really fk off!!

Are you saying that to wind the other guy up or you generally believe it!!

Lets not turn this thread into a slag every other car off.

I think we all know how the 205 is regarded so its not really relevant to bring it up in this thread.
i agree with him totally and have put it in another thread. maybe the 1.9 gti i drove was not as good as when they were new , but i thought it was awful personally and have never heard more rattles in my life.

Whatever happened to the Ford Focus RS that was supposed to be brought out about now anyone seen one yet? Rarer than the proverbial rocking horse droppings around my Ford franchise.

I saw a blue new RS parked up in a layby on the A3(M) today, it looks absolutely fantastic in the metal. I was on my way to a meeting sadly, otherwise I'd have gone back around to pull in and have a look and a chat with the driver. Are customer cars being delivered now?

Maybe this car?

As far as i'm aware, its the first right hand drive RS in the UK. Certainly the first that has been registered with UK plates.

Its not clear whether this is an FMC car (guessing not by the plate) or if its a press car. The one thing I am fairly sure about is, its not a customer car. I'll be surprised if we see any customer cars this month. The beginning of April will be the earliest (i think).

I didn't clock the plate, I must admit (although it was a yellow rear one, so presumably UK-registered). There was someone sat in the right seat for it to be right-hand-drive as well so it's entirely possible it was that car. Final UK shakedown?

Is there a colour you don't think it will look chavvy in?

Well i don't mind it in blue or white, but theres no way i'd go for the kermit colour. Silver might not be bad if they did it. Still if i was given a green one for free i'd find a way to put up with it.

why do that when you could have tinted windows to complete the external look?

IIRC, any Ford with an EN or EO plate has a good chance of being a FMC fleet, demonstrator or press car.

the escort Cosworth and sierra Cosworths were all outlandish by design years ago, ford RS`s were never meant to be subtle.

how would you have designed it so as to distinguish it sufficently from the already sporty looking ST`s then?

its what fast fords do, they shout.

I agree, the car does have to stand out, if making a car look simaler to a rally or race car means that it looks chavy then so beit.

You cant please everyone but I dont think its going to affect sales of the fastest FWD hatch ever produced.

the ST is understated in the way the old RS was (which incidentally is hardly that understated with 18 inch oz alloys rally bodykit and wide arches).

this RS has to be more butch with 90bhp more and with cars like the astra vxr nurburgring and r26r now in the frame.

anyway have you seen one in the flesh? if not i suggest you do at some point as the pics do absolutely nothing for it and in reality it really is something else.
