Sorry to piss on the bonfire, but am I the only one who thinks the money would have been better spent on quality improvements rather than styling tweaks on what were already 3 capable and pretty darned good looking cars? seems like money wasted to me...
Who says that money wasn't spent on quality improvements?

Why are they testing an off road 4x4 at the 'ring'? confused
Surely it should be tested across a ploughed field with a horse box attached.
You really think it is designed to go offroad confused
The old one did surprisingly well on top gear getting chased by a tank.
Yeh, after 20 or so takes

Just out of curiosity how much is this going to cost the British tax payer???
as the Owner of a Delorean

I believe that we are paying for the LRX??

Cant help feeling that the engineering is a bit excessive for the Run to Waitrose and the School.

The Land Rover Dealerships in this country are on there arse!

just thought I'd state a point!

Two points here.

(1) You'll miss it when it's gone. Anyone remember Mercedes from the 1980's? Built like battleships. The engineering is LR's USP. Without the best 4x4 capability in the market then what is Land Rover? Nothing!

(2) You make such a sweeping generalisation. Quite incredible. It's condescending and patronising. Is Porsche over-engineered for the run to Waitrose and the School? Surely no one NEEDS to spend £40k on a Porsche? Where does that kind of logic end? It's nonsense.

Placing the buttons in a more convenient place does not mean you have to use them all at once.
Exactly.
If modern cars are going to have loads of functions and therefore buttons to control them, the buttons may as well be positioned so that you don't have to take your hands off the steering wheel to use them.

(1) If I need a 4X4 I would buy a Toyota Amazon and I repeat NEED!

(2)my sweeping generalisation is based on experience of

A living in Surrey with a High ratio of these kind of cars being driven by complete Idiots with little or no car control.

B The RRS that hit my car as it reversed out of a Parking spot whilst the female driver was on the phone!

C I drive a Toyota Vigo
twice a Year in Jungle, Island Roads (Dirt Tracks)and over there Range Rovers very, very Rarely Make it off road unless they have been Jacked up.

I disagree. They are on the dash out of harm's way - out of sight, out of mind. This is like putting a box of toys at your fingertips to play with for the sake of it and requires the driver to look down to see which button to press. It looks like an X-Box control and people can't resist playing with those even when they're not connected. wink

You're generalising even more! There is more to a "4x4" (presumably you lump Rav4s and Range Rovers together!) than just their off road capabilities. A Range Rover, for example, is a full 5 seater car with a boot and a very high standard of luxury. So, surely then, there is more to it than its off road capabilities?

Re : your example of a girl backing into you. This isn't the fault of the car. I think you might have to consider blaming the driver for that one! You can't possibly be alleging that ALL drivers of a certain type of car are ALL idiots can you? That would be ridiculous. Again, where does that type of prejudice end? Surely then all Porsche [insert other type of fast car here] drivers are all speeders? Come on.

Like the look of the new Disco. I know it will never happen, but I do wish that LR would bring it out with the TDV8 lump from the RR.

I stopped and chatted with a Land Rover test driver last week, he was driving a 2010 Vogue 5.0 Supercharged and has to put 20,000 test miles on the car, (I have a couple of external photos which I will try to upload later) there are nine others running around having to do the same mileage. The car was white with tape masking the LED lights and new grill, the interior was far better than my 2007 car, full leather headlining, TFT screen for the speedometer, blindspot warning system etc. Apparently they are having problems with the TFT screen crashing at the moment so are desparately trying to sort this out. After seeing this in the flesh will get my order in as soon as I can find a decent local LR dealer, my nearest two have both closed down in the last few months.

Exactly.
90% of JLR euro sales are diesels. This new 3.0 DV6 is top notch hope it goes in all the cars eventually.
They just went from being run of the mill cars to possibly best in class.
Well done JLR.
Though I must say it took you long enough.

Yes, it seems that JLR are on a bit of a roll at the moment - well done.

The timing could have been better though!

I dont understand peoples view that 4x4 take up loads of room etc. It’s totally irrational. They are the same length and width as many saloons. Ok so they are bigger height wise but that doesn’t make any difference.

People have some weird inferiority complex about something being bigger than theirs.

Basically it doesnt block the school gates any more that a saloon would. It just happens that a lot of stty drivers drive 4x4's.
