Hmm. 4-door V6 with rear-biased 4WD for around 30k.

Yep, I'd definately go for an ugly Vauxhall.

I think it'll look good as long as you spec it as an estate, in the right colour. I do think it's likely to be a poor seller, which is a shame - the equivalent Audi is "only" £4000 more. I'd love to see Ford respond to this with a four-wheel-drive monster of their own. I do need a replacement for the ST220.

The performance looks slightly disappointing compared to the horsepower stats, and I do think they'll need to control the CO2 emissions somehow (Audi have managed to keep the S4 within band-F if you spec the 7-speed auto IIRC).

I know the S4 could be described looks-wise as subtle or even dull and boring but that VXR looks like it was made in the far east with a small budget- hideously ugly!

I know the market has changed somewhat in recent years, but remember that a lot of companies only let employees, even quite senior ones choose from approved lists hence the existence of £30k Insignias and £28k Mondeo's. In a previous life I was fortunate enough to drive some quite nice if boring company cars and barely a day went by when I didn't think I could have a 2 year old 911 or whatever for the price of this barge,so talk of used S4's etc is totally irrelevant.

I would still buy an Audi S4 over that ... thing.

Audi are known for interior cabin quality, I would be expecting the whole dash to come off every time I hit a speed bump in the "thing".

As to looks, well that's been covered already. vomit

The back of the Insignia is really...challenging!

I'll reserve judgement on the looks of this version (great specs at least) until I see one on the road but going on past experience of seeing them it's not a desireable car to be honest.

At this end of the market that's going to be important. Good luck to Vauxhall though, we need more cars like this not less so I hope it's a success for them.

I am almost certain that that is the Ti version with the 19inch wheels etc which makes it a diesel?

I know 0-60 isnt a good bench mark these days of big power cars out there but 320 BHP and can only muster 0-60 in 5.8 sec with 4 x 4 traction!!!!it must weigh as much as the moon.............Audi managed 4.8 for the RS2 over 10 years ago and it was an estate with only 315 BHP........

Mocking aside it amazed me the slating that Vectra VXR got from Clarkson seeing as it was recommended highly by EVO magazine. Didn't really help the rumours that he gets back handers from Ford.
I think TG and Evo tested the car in different ways. Evo tested it on the road in real conditions, while Clarkson tested it round the track with all the safety computers switched off. Seems it's a bit like a stealth fighter, can only be piloted if the computers are running properly. Having said that I would have thought that 99% of people would never turns the toys off and of the 1% who do, probably only for 1% of the time.

There's more than a hint of Bangle to those indents on the side.

I hope to be proved wrong, but I'm not convinced by a 321hp Vauxhall. That's not a case of badge snobbery, simply the fact that the Astra and Vectra have always fallen short of the blue oval badged competition dynamically. This is a considerable step up in performance and it'll be interesting to see how they manage it.

Im sorry you dont buy a VXR or any Hot version of a car, to never bother turning off the traction control.

For the Vxr to beat the Audi it will have to be significantly better, otherwise its not badge snobbery its just sensibility buying the car with more prestige.

They keep banging on about there amazing 4WD system... its Hadlex... hmm...

Hell, even Bangle's BMW aren't that ugly, let alone the Z1!
