You'll have to keep me posted as to how this progresses, one assumes that at the moment you have stumped up all of the repair cost?
yes

I will assess the car tonight (hopefully), paying specific attention to the clutch. Thereafter (where I'm 99% positive the clutch will feel like a buttered eel) a copy of all the invoices pertaining to the rectification works (of which there are three now) will be sent to Byfleet c/o PCGB with a letter ref the above conversation as well as others and a final request to recover the cost will be made before I pursue a claim through the small claims court.

There was never a 'GT2' and the DKR E36 that poses as such is in fact a fraud! <que dramatic music>. Rather its correct name is ‘Imola Individual’ and alas it was but a marketing special to flog the last E36 M3’s as the Millennium approached. I make no apologies for finding this car utterly reprehensible, because it is one of the few ///Ms that purports to be something it is not, helped in no small part by dealers who allowed buyers to think they were getting something just a little bit special. The bastids!

If you want a LHD GT M3, you’ll be needing the puka homologation 3.0 GT which was/is a proper piece of kit and differs from the standard M3 thus:

  • Ported and polished head
  • Madras strength cams
  • Reprofiled exhaust manifold
  • Revised suspension and geometry
  • adjustable front splitter
  • Biplane rear wing
  • Special sewage BRG paintwork
Now then, these 3.0 GT's (i assume its one of these that Herr Bovingdon tricked out for his ring attack, non?)....

Do they have an element of increased steering feel over the vanilla M3?

If they do, then surely for those who are fully paid up members of http://www.beards.org this has to be the one to go for. More simple vanos, genuine limited edition changes with the driver in mind and a bonafide opportunity for serious car geek oneupmanship over your mainstream E36 bretheren...

Am i wrong or am i wrong?
You're wrong.

No one else wants a GT, they're rubbish frankly.

Its just me because I like, erm, green, thats it, green and wood, nothing like it.

Acquired taste though, move along, nothing to see here.

You're not wrong.

Oneupmanship will cost you though. Entry to the club is now £10k+ for the good 'uns.

You'll also be wanting a proper LHD GT as opposed to the RHD GT Individual, which was a UK only model. Don't get me started on that mind; I'll be here all day.

The main thing at the moment is that you've got the car back and can concentrate on enjoying the wee beastie, at least you can drive it and harrass Byfleet! wink

yes

It was BMWs first foray into Balsa.

They said it was a weight saving measure but it was cost cutting, primary.

Rubbish.

Honestly.

Dark green M3 GT's are widely known for being the slowest and least desirable of all the ///M's and in fact are overvalued at present.

Actually all M3 GT's should come down significantly in price as of today.

this has nothing to do with the fact that I really want one. Nope not one iota.

Slightly off topic with regards to the last load of posts about M3's, but I have decided that I really really want an E39 M5. The crux of my problem at the moment is that I have to sell all my car related rubbish that is housed in my garage to fund it, and before I start going down that route I want to take a good long look around one, and potentially drive one - is there anyone in Berkshire / Surrey who'd be willing to suffer me asking countless questions for an hour in exchange for a pint? I'd go to a dealer, but I'd prefer not to 'waste' their time as I won't quite be in a position to buy, and I also want an owners persepective on the car if possible

Ta biggrin

As do I Ric, as do I.

On another note, the dealer has a lovely yellow leather key ring in it's cabinet that I really, really want. Clearly no-one else does as it's been there since Porsche invented the 911.

I know. I'm a chav.

sod the key ring

I'd be minded to get them to pay for the remdial works, tax, missing extinguishers and fund a year's warranty gratis as a gesture...

Sorry, this is Aberdeen we're talking about and is the purveyor of said key ring. They are not responsible for providing me with an actual Porsche as opposed to a donkey masquerading as one.

Fear not though, Operation ststorm has barely begun smile
