For the record a while back when Tesco had all the trouble with bad petrol knackering petrol engines, it was down to the silicone additive which was meant for the diesel storage tank being put in the petrol storage tank by mistake. This rogered the 02 sensors in the petrol cars in which it was used.
And an O2 sensor is about 80 quid, whereas a new set of derv fuel lines, pump, injectors etc etc is a touch more expensive.

In a common rail type diesel engine - forget it, as has been said, just starting the fuel pump can be enough to shag the thing.
Surely the VW PS130 engine I miss-fuelled is a common rail? It's fine. As I said earlier and the posts on this thread kind of bear it out - those that have actually been there and done it say its usually fine.
Don't you mean PD or Pump-duse?

These are unit injector, not common rail.

Hey there,

One of my friends has put 20 quid worth of petrol in a modern diesel Peugot 207. The car has been driven afterwards, but is not starting anymore. Just waiting for RAC to come and tow it away, but do you think a simple drainage will do or would it have messed up the inner workings of the car? I've heard stories that it can sometimes cost £2000 to get this fixed.

Cheers
Get it taken to an independent diesel specialist for inspection (dealer will more than likely want to change the injection system)

Sorry to drag an old thread up, but I thought there'd be some interest in my experience.

My wife pulled onto the driveway yesterday evening, in tears with a very rough running Berlingo 1.6 diesel.

She'd been into town and put 30 litres of Super unleaded into the car by mistake, and realised what she'd done as the car started to run rough on the 4 mile journey home. (She did it once before about 15 years ago)

I immediately googled the problem, read some real horror stories, then phoned the AA. They couldn't do anything immediately, but they turned up this morning around 10, and set to work.

It was a specialist vehicle, set up purely for mis fueling. Within 1/2 an hr he'd drained the fuel tank with a suction hose, purged the fuel lines from under the bonnet, and refilled with 10 lires of diesel with a fuel treatment. He then ran the car for 5 minutes, job done. Car now runs better than ever, just been to town and brimmed the tank.

He says that in 8 years of doing this job, (5-6 jobs a day) he's never had a diesel car that was damaged, but has had a few petrol cars that suffered. Mainly small capacity, high hp jap motors.

Total cost was £219.00, so I'm expecting a few nice meals over the next couple of days!!!!!

Similar here, my wife's diesel Fiesta has been filled twice with petrol (35l in a 40l tank) and run till it stopped (5 miles ish) on both occasions. Both occasions I drained the tank, changed the fuel filter, then refilled with Diesel. Total cost 70l of petrol down the drain (not literally) and two £7 filters. 20k miles since the last time and no sign of problems.
