Sounds amazing - is this on TV or online anywhere? Definitely an event I am interested in - bonkers!
For reasons I have yet to figure out Pikes Peak has no TV coverage at all - even in the US. Why on earth one of the major TV channels doesn't cover it instead of wasting money on other rubbish is beyond my comprehension.

One of, if not THE, greatest hillclimbs/special stages in existence, yet most people have never heard of it (and are never likely to with no TV coverage).
Madness, however looks like you can follow it on the radio. Unfortunately cannot test at work due to firewall but someone else should be able to confirm links work.

I don't think I've ever wanted to drive a car as much as I want to drive that. Only one word can do it justice, awesome!

I've just spoken top Geoff on the phone and the car has passed scrutineering - Next thing is the 1st test day tomorrow.

He says that updates should be coming through on http://www.mach2racing.com/ if there is nothing anywhere else.

Finger crossed that it all goes well.

P.S I'll post here if I here anything else not on the mach2 site. smile

Is this based on the RS200 that Mach2 used to run with Stig Blomqvist?

If so its a stunning car, I saw it run at the Castle Coombe rally day a few years back.

Good luck to them as IIRC Stig Blomqvist's runs got hampered by bad weather at the top of the mountain and they moved the finish line down.

I'm glad this hit the front page of pistonheads as it is all British even down to the tyres and has the Thrust / SSC Richard Noble " For Britain and the hell of it" about it ethos.

Isn't there a topic on here about the fastest A to B car? Look no further, and all from the 1990's to boot. Mind you it is rather limited testing up there and one run only so it might get a Fiesta or a Suzuki beating it. You have to admire the N02 to defeat the lack of oxygen near the summit.

The best thing of all, it has 900bhp without No2 and is only geared for 140mph max.

Golly.

Regards

Andy

Odd isn't it, no TV... I guess at 12miles it's major headache, and an awful lot of cameras and helicopters, still you'd think someone would, it's like the Isle of Man TT or the NW 200, one of those glorious one off from history (like the Targa Florio or Mille Migilia) that H & S wouldn't let you do now if someone suggested it, ought to celebrated for it's "cos it's there" ethos, someone from Top Gear should be going there!

Mark Rennison is a PROPER legend. Grew up watching him Rallycross in his DSRM RS200 against Will Gollop's 6R4, John Welch's X-trac Astra, Matti Allimaki's 205 T16, Martin Shanche (THE Man) in an RS200 and various loons in Yellow 911's and Beetles ect. Ah, those were the days.......

stunning car! was in CCC some years ago. to stop the turbo stalling they vented he BOV air into the exhaust. when combind with the anti-lag there was NO lag! smile

and now they have N2O on top! lol

Chris.
I don't understand how venting BOV gases (themselves a function of the required level of boost being reached) venting into the exhaust (presumably pre-turbo going by the point you were trying to make) will hasten spool. Anti lag on it's own should be sufficient, or possibly a shot of nitrous at low revs should get the job done.

Greg
The BOV does not bleed off excess boost pressure on full throttle, it vents boost pressure in the intercooler and pipework when you come off the throttle during a gear change. If that excess air is vented to the exhaust manifold pre-turbo, it can be combined with a shot of fuel and a retarded spark that blows right through the exhaust valves as they open and ignites in the exhaust manifold, keeping the turbo spinning during the gearchange.
well said mate, well said.. ..ps why do you have a cute name?

  • wonder if this venting into pre-turbo exhaust business would work on less pressurised turbo's??? Anyone tried?
or for that matter, heavy boost evo's with diabolical turbo lag..

I think this probably doesn't fully cure the lag but just make it a lot better since they are still using 2.0 lt engines!

You got it chaps! supposed to work a treat acording to CCC when they drove the car.

Also have a look for the scooby 'rocket box' think its a similar thing only they add fuel to!!!! wink

Cheers

Chris.
