Odd isn't it, no TV... I guess at 12miles it's major headache, and an awful lot of cameras and helicopters, still you'd think someone would, it's like the Isle of Man TT or the NW 200, one of those glorious one off from history (like the Targa Florio or Mille Migilia) that H & S wouldn't let you do now if someone suggested it, ought to celebrated for it's "cos it's there" ethos, someone from Top Gear should be going there!
Top Gear advertised a magazine feature on last years PPIHC, but I don't ever remember seeing it published. I guess there could be logistical problems, but they manage to capture the TT on film and thats 38 miles of public roads. With the money thats chucked at covering certain sports you'd think someone would divert some funds towards this.Given that several major (English speaking) teams will be in attendance I hope at least one of them has taken a film crew with them. I'd love to see a "Truth in 24" style documentary for the PPIHC - especially if this is the year the 10 minute barrier is broken.

Must admit Id be suprised if they took the record. I simply think they have the wrong car for the job.
i would love to know what cars you think would do the job better. please enlighten me.Still, its the Peak and more than anything else the weather will play its part in determining if they have a shot or not. I will be suprised if they take the record.

Taken from their website :
"MDV Specialist Engineering have considerable experience with RS200s and earlier this year they stripped the car down to the bare chassis. Their main task was to loose as much weight as safely possible. Using all their race and rally experience they managed to beat their target of 100 lbs. The 2009 car now weighs in at 2,315 lbs (1,050 kgs) ready to race, with a full fuel tank and with the driver on board."
fk me, that almost F1 Bhp Per ton territory but with the Peak you do not get the handy of run off areas a F1 car gets, only a 1000 foot drop. as the battle for sub 10 commences I hope no one falls off the cliff, they are playing with death here and I'm personally not a fan of that but I hope they stay safe!
They've been trying to break the 10 minute mark for 15 years or so already, theres nothing new about it. Millen ran 10:04 in 1994, Tajima took 13 years to beat it by 2.6 seconds. Millens car looked better too:

But I still love the RS200
Sorry if someone else has mentioned this, but if you're interested in Pikes Peak, check out 'Climb Dance' on You Tube, and then check out the article on Drivers' Republic, with the full video of Richard Meadon's ascent.
On another note, I remember building a model of Pikes Peak at the beach (out of sand, obviously) in the 80's...

Good luck to the lads, but "...beating the 10-minute barrier shouldn’t be a problem" came across as a little arrogant to me. The competition at 'the mountain' is tough. Tajima has been competing there in the unlimited class since 1992, Millen took the record in 1994 and both have been fine tuning their cars for the mountain ever since. Thats a lot of experience & car development to beat on your first visit. I'm not saying they can't do it, but if they do, it'll be a hell of an achievement.
Regarding the TV coverage, it used to fairly big budget (helicopter/corner cams) and shown on ESPN. But i can't find out who's covering it this year.
Out of interest, Millen hasn't signed up yet this year.

Is there any onboard footage of Monster Tajima's floating around? I have not been able to find any.

When you consider the grip levels available, is it really necessary to have 1150Hp?? As the above post points out, the Rohrl car had around 600hp. I watched the x7 clip posted earlier in the thread and I think having the aero package and suspension sorted would be the ticket. I mean, NOs? Really? Colin Chapman and I don't subscribe to the Yank doctrine of "more cubes!" Sure, the car needs plenty of Hp but the power needs to be tractable. I do love the RS200 though and I'd dearly like to see them get the record
