excellent news, great to see he's still got the fight to race....

and yes it would be good to see him in btcc again... possibly not in a mondeo... I think he still blames Tiff Needell for that off aswell..... I was there, Tiff helped yes, but he was already heading for the wall!

At least he's picked the right marque!

Ginetta are after all the records now (and getting them!)...

This Ginetta Le Mans car has had the youngest Briton ever at Le Mans (17 year old Nigel Moore) and now looks like getting the 'oldest' to drive it.
No fun intended there Nige, go for it!

Anything that brightens up the motorsport scene is welcome imo.

My thoughts exactly!! laugh

But regardless of what a good driver he was/is, I have never seen/heard such a complete 'dullard' when he is interviewed...........sleep
So which would you rather have, a boring driver who is interesting in interviews or an exciting driver who isn't a great talker.

Go for it Nige.

Shame Tiff isn't racing. It would be good to see them go head to head again.

You've heard some of the recent crop of Mechanical Scandinavian Rallists haven't you....?

But what a ridiculous statement FFS - he was the best at what he did, feck to how TV friendly he was/is!

Actually what I said was: "regardless of what a good driver he was/is", and I was merely giving my opinion (which as far as I understand is still permitted on P/H?)

BTW: Whats a Rallist?? rolleyes

Just awesome racing. IMO much more interesting than F1.

Correction: Mansell never won the indy 500. In 1993 he was leading the Indy 500 but fluffed the restart after a caution period. He finished third behind winner Emerson Fittipaldi & Arie Luyendyk.

Yes You are right it wasn't the Indy 500 he won, it was the Cart World Series in 93', and he is still the only person in history to have held both titles simoultanously. Fantastic driver, really always appreciated is aggressive driving style, and I will never forget that race in spain 91' racing Senna down the straight at 200mph with sparks flying everywhere and finally Senna let him pass on the inside.....it took big cohonas to take on Senna he wouldn't let anybody pass!

What is the history of the Silverstone 1000km race? Don't think I've heard of it before. And what happened to the Tourist Trophy?

I don't like seeing leg ends (not icons surely) coming back and trying to relive former glories in some minor event which may end ignominiously. Il Leone was a tough racer in his time and has some great moments and achievements to look back on - leave it there.

Nigel Mansell like allot of racing car drivers has the will to win - I suppose you just can't turn that off!

I remember watching him when i was a boy - he never gave in fought to the bitter end even against such greats as Senna and Prost.

I say good on him....

I can't remember the dates but Sydney when his tyre blew out on the straight next to Senna was truly exciting as was being unable to pass Senna at Monaco. Those were the turbo days and they were bloody exciting imo.

As a racer Mansell is a true legend - and that is all that counts, surely?

(I was on the Cramer Curves for the TOCA Shootout when he tried to take out Starkeys Bridge - when the screens came out ,a good many people in the crowd started crying ,thinking he had croaked it!)
