As a racer Mansell is a true legend - and that is all that counts, surely?

(I was on the Cramer Curves for the TOCA Shootout when he tried to take out Starkeys Bridge - when the screens came out ,a good many people in the crowd started crying ,thinking he had croaked it!)
yes i was there that day too, but he lost all respect when he tried to blame tiff needell for his off when it was his own bloody fault !

Things were very rarely Nigel's fault!

And the problems he had to face ,very unlucky driver - would alwyas get out the car and come up with some tale of how he had triumphed despite having driven most of the race with no steering wheel or stuck in first!

it doesnt take long for the 'anti mansell' brigade to come out of the woodwork does it? yes, he has his faults, dont all race drivers?, yet people seem to forget what he achieved in his race career.

unlike a certain german he didnt cheat his way to race wins or championship victories & he was never thrown out of a championship due to blatant cheating.

he was also one of the few who wasnt physched out by senna or prost.

& let us not forget what he did when he went indy car racing or his touring car exploits.

youtube his touring car races to see just how good he was....

so instead of slagging him off lets support him & make the turnout at silverstone a big grand prix type crowd & maybe we will see him pull off a victory.

i know that i will be there to support 'our nige'.

For what it is worth I haven't slagged him off at any point .Merely made what is a quite accurate point - look back at his post race interviews!

Also ,why do you think I might actually have driven from Torquay to Donnington for the TOCA Shootout (and spent the night sleeping in the car) - why yes ,to see Nige drive!

And was it ever worth it - every time he came round he seemed to have made up a place and the cheers that went up when he did so were fantastic. Pity it ended prematurely ,but thats racing!

Still worth the effort though - brilliant couple of days.

(Nothing on Youtube of that accident from what I can see?)

yes tiff did hit him , but as mansell had already lost control and veered back into his path he could do nothing about it and punted 'our nige' into starkeys bridge , tiff was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and got slagged off by the 'wonder tash' for his trouble !

too many people wearing rose tinted specs in this thread i feel

But, he did get an 'assit' credit for the contact... smile

Not Tiff's fault. Yeah right. He could have done more. Perhaps his talent limitations precluded that in which case it was not his fault... Yeah ... that's it.

The professional jealously shown by some of the TC drivers in intereviews after that event I found very disappointing.
