I agree. shout Riggers, buy a bloody car!

You give someone some money and they can spend their working day looking at cars and what happens? Nothing, that's what hehe
Point taken - but you keep scaring me off thoroughly tempting sheds with the memory of the 420 SE saga...
If I remember correctly wasn't the original intention of the Shed purchase to make a profit on each deal and gradually trade up and up so that you ended up with something very interesting and much above shed status. That had the makings of a very interesting exercise. However progress has been pitiful. You guys are simply not focussed on the job!

Can you dig out the original posting about this exercise and review how well you have met the objectives of the original brief, and whether or not you've adhered to the target time-scales (if there were any)?

hehe Never buy a car from a farmer or Pikeys...

I'm reminded of the caravan that Tommy and George tried to buy from the Pikeys in Snatch. They pay, drive off and the back wheels fall off.

Mickey: The deal was you bought it like you saw it. Hey, look, I've helped you as much as I'm going to help you. See that car? Just use it for you're not welcome anymore. You should fk off now while you still got the legs to carry you.
Gorgeous George: Nobody...
Mickey: Nobody brings a fella the size of you unless they're trying to say something without talking, right boy?
Tommy: Sorry, Mickey. Just give our money back and you can keep the caravan.
Mickey: Why the fk do I want a caravan that's got no fking wheels?

EEEEEEk J4CKO, I drive an Audi A4 2.0Tdi SE 140, i could be your worst dinner party guest! Rest assured though, it`s the only car i haven`t bought myself as it came with the job, although i own it now....... I feel i must stand up for the interior though, yes it`s black but it looks much better once it`s festooned with Burger King wrappers, CDs, drinks bottles and crisp packets. Could even be French! And I do get 53mpg you know, pass the Blue Nun will you?
LOL, you confound my theory by displaying a sense of humour !

What a (tuneable) Turbocharged 5-cylinder?
just because its a turbo and has 5 clynders, doesnt mean it is fast. 0-60 in 8 ish seconds, nothing special. why would you want to tune something like this, money better spent on a 3 or 5 series bmw from the same decade for 575 quid.

This old rat is not a proper SOTW. IF anyone at the headquarters had ever driven
an Audi from the 80ies (less the Quattro) they would have known better.

These are barges, very much in the Renault kind of style. FWD, mellow ride and
plush interiour.

Nice things for elderly Professor types. But SOTW. no way.

Can't you come up with something drastic like a Lotus Eclat or something?

P.S. With two Turbo Volvos I had one Turbo Failure at 180k Miles. And it was fixable at a local
engine overhauling shop. Well maintained Turbos are not a problem.

My old love was a full spec black beauty with sports suspension. Absolutely brilliant on snow! Had a lockable rear diff and you could even switch off the ABS. When the old lady left, she had 317'000km on the clock. I met her two years later again, she was still on her way but her new master had littered her with some very unfunny wings and stickers.

I owned one of these for a while, loved it.

mine was an ex press car and came with the love it or hate it tresser kit.
identical mech spec to the shed, it was the fwd auto.
Fantastic car for long journeys, not so much b roads.
easish to work on too, but parts did make me wince.

It was very reliable, but costly on the fuel.

after mt prev car a Ren 5 GT turbo, the build quality was soo different, it felt so good to drive and own.

miss my 200 these days, had a great engine sound.

I think the archive photo is a 20 valve 200 as it has round rear arches.

No need to dig out the objectives as I set them out in the first place smile

Original timescale was 12 months, later extended in a subsequent SOTW feature. We are trying to gain in profit, and in the end we'll give the car away when we reach a decent level.

Trouble is with such a small team, and a rapidly growing website, we simply haven't had the time to look at many cars as much as we'd like to. We've looked at a few locally but they weren't worth buying sadly but we have another viewing planned for tomorrow so fingers crossed.

It's not forgotten, just simmering in the background.

I had the slightly downmarket version, the 100 Turbo a '92 model, but it shared the engine and the drivetrain (I had to fit a 200 front strut following a rock/ car interface when spectating on the Network Q rally).

It was the ex Audi UK Finance Director's car and had been breathed on by his spanner wielding colleagues so that it would boost up to 2 bar, ridiculously fast thing on the straights, with a sizeable bit of turbo lag and lots of dump valve whistling.

I ran it from 8k miles to 168k and it only let me down once when the pipe from the turbo fell off and the car could barely idle as the NA compression was so low.

It had the original turbo, clutch, gearbox etc but it used to eat brake discs and pads. The catalytic converter decided to break up and exit the exhaust in bits at one point but it wasn't needed and the exhaust note sounded better.

The reason why these old Audis don't rust is that they were galvanised bodies, however the mild steel fixings used to rust up like buggary.

I sold it to an aquaintance ( I bought a Vauxhall Omega which, in comparison, by 75k was shagged) and when I saw it next a few weeks later I couldn't help but check out my trusty Audi.

Seems that the aquaintance had just moved it on with a new mileage of 74k.

Brilliant Q car.

Cheers,

Tony

When I was a kid, my father did the motoring page for the local newspaper he worked on. Local garages would lend him cars for the weekend ,and we had access to what must have been a massive Ford Press fleet as well! One of the more memorable cars he had on test was a very eary (Pretty sure it was a W reg) type 43 200 5T! It seemed very exotic at the time ,and IIRC had an interior trim that was a weird mix of velour and check! Brilliant sound though!

Looks great but, as you say, I'd tread carefully. If there's any one who knows when to get rid of some machinery just before an expensive bill is about to appear it's a farmer. I'd ask to have a chat with the guy who did the work and ask him what he's done (or not).
...he's had it for 20 years! ...Surely that's reason enough in itself to be considered as a genuine reason for sale!

And not to forget, that it's got the same lights as a Virage ;-) (Aston borrowed them off the Audi, not the other way around).

My dad used to own a non turbo version of this, back in the late 80's...nice cars, but maybe not as reliable as some people are making out here. Well, his wasn't.. At that price, worth a punt!

Fantastic SOTW. Always wanted one, but don't have the space. Already have 3 garages...

Didn't Quentin Wilson really rate those back in the days of old Top Gear?
