A very old story... Tarting up Minis goes back to sixties. Peter Selllers was the first to commission former Rolls Royce coachbuilder, Hooper, to build one. It cost four times the cost of the base car and was as pointless then as it is now......

Personally I just don't like Minis.... The interior is revolting.. There has to be a market for someone to rip out that apology for a dashboard and put in a proper one with real instruments.

Great! I always liked those Wood & Pickett minis. Using Rolls-Royce trim shop will hopefully guarantee quality. Besides, why should I have to buy that monstrous Phantom luxo-barge to enjoy a nice interior? If some of the predictions here are right, that it won't provide a better second hand value, so much the better. I'll pick up a second hand JCW with the bespoke Rolls interior at no extra cost. Maybe they'll show Aston how to do it?

RR mini is a travesty... lets take two British icons and cross breed to get something thats neither.

How contrived.
But better than a Mini customized RR. Racing stripes and cute spotlights on your Phantom, sir?

Seems like a sensible move to me, whether you like the car or not (I am not a huge fan, but like the interior).

Mini owners love personalising their cars (indeed, isn't it a big selling point?) and I'd imagine that BMW make a lot of money on options.

So why not add an "ultimate" level of personalisation? It will be lapped up by trendy central London types...
I read this and thought "Look at me I'm different just like everyone else"

So, never mind about the crappy steering and engine. Just add even more bling to it. This has to be the most shallow car on sale.

I think its a cool little thing. Wood and Pickett/ERA were equally cool in their day.

The ERA I remember being £30 odd grand in the late 80's!!!

What's with all of the venom on here??!!!

Old idea it may be, but a well built, nippy yet luxurious small car that also is fun to throw down a country road when the mood takes you...?!

...what's not to like, as long as no-one majors on the RR connection, but rather the Radford etc coachbuilt bit.

Not much love in the room for Minis then?!rolleyes

I cant believe some folk will compare a factory Metro with Rolls Royces handiwork?! rolleyes Its a different league entirely..
I like the Mini Rolls But then I still have an original Wood & Pickett Mini bowtie So it was bound to appeal.
I don't see whats wrong with a small luxury car.. Theres no rule to say a classy bespoke interior should be the preserve of 20ft 3 ton barges.
There seems to be much hate for the sake of hating.. There is nothing wrong with choice and variety. Its not like anyone is forcing it on you. Its just an option, and we're not in communist 1960's Russia. So why not? If you are happy driving your standard issue factory cars knowing there's thousands of other identical ones out there, thats fine. But some people don't want to drive a cloned sheep mobile, and like something a little more unique and luxurious. It shouldn't matter if it's a Mini or a Bentley. Thats their choice, just like its your choice to drive car X.

The news is that the project is going ahead, with confirmation from BMW and Rolls Royce executives. The pictures attached to the story (although authentic) are not 'scoops' and the caption describes them as 'spy shots', which is the usual vernacular for this sort of thing.

Please email us at news@pistonheads.com if you want to share your dealer comments, we're always interested.

Are you all genuinely getting so worked up about a Mini with an extra option box to tick?

When people buy one they will get a nice interior, not the chance to have a go on your mum.

Great Wood and picket by the way. Any more images?

But i do think yuoare wrong: yes there is nothign wrong with having luxury in a small car But there is a lot wrong with branding it as somehting it cleatly isnt. its a very short term gain which will harm the companby long term- the same as the Aston Cygnet. A ployt to get more cash in by badge engineering a car. It will sell loads in the first instance, but people will quickly move onto the next thing, and those who would have bought the genuine article wont bother now as the whole brand has been cheapened. Mini have nothing to lose. Rolls Royce have a lot to lose.

BMW will no doubt take your arm off in the showroom, but a couple of years old and it's just another second hand Mini with a leather interior...only for those who wish to have additional depreciation!

Could go down well in bling overseas markets though.

- Mini Coopers with re-worked interiors and extremely high standards of trim became popular in the early 1960s, and were often owned by the highest profile celebrities of the era, including all four Beatles.
It’s popularly believed that the first high-end coachbuilt Mini was commissioned by actor Peter Sellers in 1963. It is said to have cost £2600 when a standard Cooper cost £679.
The Sellers’ Mini was quickly followed by a similar offering from Harold Radford called the Mini de Ville. This came in three specification levels, but all versions included new instrument packs, wooden dashboards, Rolls-Royce-style seats and even new headlamps.
In 1965 the de Ville was also available with a hatchback and folding rear seats, an example of which was famously owned by Ringo Starr -

If it was good enough for the late Peter Sellers, who was rumored to have paid just under 4 times the price of a 'normal' mini, it's good enough for the 21st century.

It's a shame there isn't a single online motoring forum that's not filled with pointless, spite-filled negativity, valid opinions aside.

Another thought; double glazing, sound proofing, bespoke sound system and wafty suspension set up would be lovely.
