Hmm, switching to the V12 sound appears to make the prius look like it's dying, look at all that smoke :0

Look ..... I love the sound of a (real) V8 or V12 as much as anyone ...... but this is just fking bonkers.
The environment is loud enough anyway without introducing deliberate noise pollution.
What's wrong with pedestrians and cyclists just learning to look where they're going rather than having the nanny state looking after their best interests while they casually (and carelessly) go about their business?!

With kind of space craft/Millenium Falcon type noises I think I would probably look upwards and then get run over - simply ban all stupid electric/hybrid cars anyway - they are not the future!!!!!

Algae production to make bio fuels is the way forward!!!! Israel is the leader in this I think!!!!!!!

I'm sure if it were that simple, blindness would have been cured long ago. That said, I agree that it's shame if we don't get the benefits of less traffic noise from quieter cars - I hope there's an alternative solution that doesn't require strapping a hifi to the outside of the car.

I graduated with a degree in Physics in 1992 and one of the modules in my final year was Acoustics including Active Noise Suppression. Lotus had already been developing it for years even then, so I'm a bit surprised that they *still* haven't brought it to market 17 years later.

Bloke with a red flag.

Perhaps I shouldn't suggest that smile

Presumably its modelling an italian V12- going to considerable length too even including simulated engine-fire!

rolleyes

You can see (hear) it now. All the different sounding cars on the road and not an engine noise between them.

Jets, frogs, Homer Simpson shouting "Doh!" and "beer".

It will end up with setting for everything from braking to accelerating, indicating sounds...

Having been driven in a civic with the full development system installed, mimicking sounds from Aston, corvette and porsche, it is an interesting idea all the more likely to take off if hybrids get sensible and go with cvt and generators driving batteries.
