Full marks to Mercedes for (apparantly) letting you switch off the ESP completely.

One of the most fun cars I owned was a new E55AMG. Went like the clappers, sounded awesome and took 4/5 in comfort. The new styling looks superb - the 2 door version even better.

+1 (although I wish it sounded more like the SL55)

Just what the world needs, another big "sports" saloon.

And before anybody complains, this isn't a Copenhagen type moan about global warming etc just questioning the relevance in the modern world of traffic, scameras, taxes and fuel costs?

Why "sports"?

There's plenty of reasons for cars like this biggrin

I'll take one, but not before I scrape together enough for a G55 biggrin
Have you spent much time in one? The old man has one. It's amazing, primarily because of it's ability to be equally god awful as it is brilliant.

It is the perfect definition of how some cars have evolved into soulless creations; they've forgotten that their point is completely derived from their pointlessness!
Sadly not. I've been in a 500 and a 300 a few years ago which forged my love of the G and I just know that I would be very happy indeed with a 55. They fetch very strong money though, so still a dream for me at the moment.
Recently had a current type G wagon a G400 cdi LWB(4litre V8 twin turbo diesel)with all the toys,it was an awesome piece of kit, built like a tank (literally),drove like a cross between an S-class and a Mercedes Truck, the best bits of both tho,
Wish i still had it but sold it for a huge amount considering age/LHD/Mileage etc,but worth every penny to own and drive it.
Next one will be a 55 Kompressor, but will miss the V8 Diesel for the Big Truck sound and V8 Diesel woofle, kind of goes with the look IMO.
,and it was Quick period and the best bit 25mpg regularly.
Think i will go and buy it back.....
Sorry got totally side tracked,Hope it was informative (Garlick)

Jaguar XF-R is a nicer car but if it were a toss up between this, a 5 Series or an A6, I would take the Merc.
