Id have a LR defender any day and save 70K. Cant see the point in it tbh.
If you don't see the point then there really is no reason to try and explain it. Every ounce of my engineer and car enthusiast self tells me it's completely rubbish every time I get in the old man's one, and yet I can't stop myself from loving it.
I couldn't really compare it to a Defender though, my one's a nice one but it's still like a tin shed compared to the G. It's on the same scale of overpriced crudeness, it's just a long way further up it.

If the depreciation is to be believed it's a sensible buy as well.
I had my first G for 7 years. Purchased for £10,500 from a Merc Dealer with 100K miles. Sold it after 7 years with 175K miles for £10,000. Not bad depreciation in my book.My current G has not depreciated in 2 years. In fact price has probably gone up due to the Euro rate change.
Sensible motoring in my book!

Big heavy and thirsty like a Tiger tank - but still oddly fun in big boy toy sort of way!

For that wedge the Rangie is infinitely better. It does look like an up market Defender and that is no recommendation, unless you farm in Welsh Wales that is!
Infinitely better where? I'll bet you this thing is pretty tough to beat in the terrain it was intended for. Even by todays latest releases.Any one who is comparing this to a defender is completely wrong... When i was in the army we tested 5 of these. And when i say 'tested' i mean we ragged the ass off them on the salisbury plains. Drove them through all the crap you can think of, and not once did it get stuck in tank tracks or breakdown. (the reason the British army didnt use it as their work horse was duee to the purchace price compared to the landy's we where told)
The amount of abuse these things can take and still be reliable is why they are such a great car.
