RE: Peugeot S16 Revived As Dodgy 'Special'
Discussion
i don't really understand who buys this st. i mean you have to at least care about cars to a certain extent to know what some bird in marketing is trying to copy..but if you do know or care about cars you won;t buy this piece of arse.
is that 107 rallye genuine? is is that something some one has 'done for the internet'. sadly i do think it's the former!

Its been said many times already, but Peugeot have lost their way of late. Having owned 4 GTi6s in the past, I can really vouch for them. Nothing Pug have made in the last 5+ years comes close IMO.
The thing is though, people do buy their cars. There are shedloads of fat 207s, 307s, 308s etc on the road.

look peugeot old stuff ok use to have great times throwing my 306 around and even better in my old 205,where has all your handling, performance gone.We do not need cars that are rally look alike obviously some marketing,Hr cuddley ploy for all those well heeled 20 somethings that thinks this is cool,i dont know can we have some cars not designed by computer but with some soul,
Yes i remember the Braham Viva, had a worked over engine (Head and cam) from memory in the ilk of the Holbay Hunters / H120's and Avenger Tiger, the 4R2? no you've got me with that one.
Pugs have never struck me as something i must do before i die, and the present range i 'think' is the dullest ever, but who on earth wants a 'look at me' stickered up 120 brake boglatron?

All of you are lauding the 205 and 306 over the current stuff, reminiscing about how great they were when you used to own one - but how many of you regularly drive one? Put your money where your mouth is and buy one again. I can guarantee your glasses are more rose-tinted than you can possibly imagine!
As somebody already said, they haven't made a car I have been interested in since the 306 GTi / 106 GTi / Rallye went out of production.
How did they get it so wrong? And how do they continue to get it so wrong?
There aren't many car companies where there is not a single thing in their entire range that interests me. Peugeot is one.
Peugeot - the drive of your wife.
ETA - my old Rover 25 got to 60 _2_ seconds quicker than this with the same sized engine.

Here's my 309GTI - still a great drive! I personally can't understand the virtually universal hatred of Peugeots radiating from the majority of people on this site. Granted, this special edition isn't particularly impressive, more just a money spinning marketing ploy. But the cars that Peugeot are producing these days are well constructed, well designed (IMHO), actually fairly pleasant to drive, with generous kit levels and impressive engines (albeit slightly underpowered in some cases).
Ok, so the sporting pretentions of old may not be abundant, but Peugeot and Citroen are undergoing a major rebranding phase at the moment which I'm certain will produce some wonderful models sooner rather than later. Although none of them will impress you miserable sods no doubt

That sounds much like damning with faint praise. Is fairly pleasant to drive as good as it gets nowadays...? I dont think its Peugeot bashing per se but rather a disappointment with what was once one of the GREAT HOT HATCH MAKERS.Ok, so the sporting pretentions of old may not be abundant, but Peugeot and Citroen are undergoing a major rebranding phase at the moment which I'm certain will produce some wonderful models sooner rather than later. Back in the day there were 2 hot hatch makers who stood head and shoulders above the rest, VW with the Mk1 and MK2 Golf Gti and Peugeot with the 205 Gti's and the 309 Gti and even the 405 Mi16.
These were great cars, the benchmark and everything else fell short.
The Germans lost their way with the Golf in Mk3 and Mk4 guise but got their act together with the R32 and then the Mk5 Golf Gti.
Peugeot seem to have just given up.
Dont tell me ther is no market for decent hot hatches. The Mk5 Gti, Focus ST,Astra VXR all seem to find plenty of homes. And as for Renault well they seem to be able to make a decent hot hatch from anything ( a Clio, Meganne even a Twingo for heavens sake).
