The advent of tyres from the internet, mytyres, black circles etc has made fitting go up considerably in my area over the last 3 years.

3 years ago I used to get them done for "buy me and my buddy a beer". I was getting tyres from a local motorsport company and all the staff who got cheap tyres went to this same garage, so I'd hand over £10 all good. Then that place said "sorry, getting too busy fitting tyres we've not supplied and its now £10 a tyre + VAT", so I said I couldn't justify that price when for years its been a £10 total. I went to the next closest garage and paid £20 for all four done. The time after that, that garage also said £10+ vat a tyre frown Said sorry I'll find elsewhere, .... I failed, some were as high as £14+ VAT a tyre. I now go back to the place I started out and pay the £10+ vat each.
frown

Its understandable if they are not selling enough tyres anymore to cover costs, but its frustrating that 15 minutes work that did cost £10 now costs £50 frown

£50 for 4 sounds reasonable with valves and balancing.

Take the tyres to the dump yourself and save yourself the £20 disposal fee.

Had two tyres fitted whilst car being serviced at no extra charge (at least, not specified on the invoice smile).

The art is to go on a Saturday morning when hopefully the gaffer will be tucked up in bed.Its usually pretty quiet and if so a £20 note waved in the direction of a friendly tyre fitter can get the required result.

Damn, you people pay for tyre disposal?

I got all 4 of my tyres changed for a tenner. I wouldn't expect to pay any more than £20 for 4.

Well I charge 30 for a set up to 19 inch and about 40 for reverse mount and a little more for over 19 inch. Tyre disposal is usually free but i charge for the big stuff nothing over 5 a tyre .

Ha ha....no, not really. I had cause to google this very question and was led to this thread. Without paying attention to the date of the last post I found myself replying.
I see I wasn't the only one though....
