RE: Video: Porsche's Glorious Motorsport Past
Discussion
It's quite sad that you can count the recent great Porsche motorsport moments in that vid on one hand. Serves to highlight how awesome Porsche was in the past. . . but also how it has recently abused its heritage (heck, the GT1 is now 14 years old - anything vaguely iconic in top level motorsport since?).
I love Porsche dearly, and this is a fantastic advert - hopefully it's a realisation from Porsche that this is where the future lies.

IMHO I call the 24hrs at the 'ring rather iconic and top level motorsport.delays said:

...wellm, last weekend one of their engines won the Daytone 24hours. Not bad, considering the engine wasnt sanctionned by Porsche. And they are very good at LMP2 with the RS SpyderI love Porsche dearly, and this is a fantastic advert - hopefully it's a realisation from Porsche that this is where the future lies.

Great stuff, most of the reasons I love them so much encapsulated into a 30 second ad.
I think the reason Porsche have been absent from the top flights of GT racing in recent years has more to do with the rules than with the company itself. The RS Spyder was a commercial decision as this is a very successful customer racer and keeps their eye in as it were. However I think they are very focused on the halo effect of having an obvious linkage to the cars in the showroom, and with 911's still regularly winning GT2 and GT3 races all over the world, the massive investment in winning (nothing else would do) LMP1 with a prototype type racer is difficult to justify.

Fabulous videos but give me a break - that Panamera is just so goddamn ugly - I thought Porsche had learnt its lesson with the Cayenne. Stick to what you know and looks good...
Have you seen one on the road though? So much better in the flesh than in pics.John D. said:

I didn't spot any 956/962's in there which is a bit of a shame, great adverts though!
There's one shown a few times in the Panamera ad (probably an IMSA 962 judging from the colour scheme).M.

I'm not normally a sucker for advertising but that makes me want a Porsche. Badly!
Yes, me too!!!But an old one: 2.7 Carrera RS or an 993 S2.
The later ones lost the dare devil feel and are too "techno-comfy", IMO
