I like this "and reaches 124mph in 10.8 seconds" that's proper fast!
That stood out for me as well. Very quick car indeed.

Porsche doing what they do best evolving already good cars and maximizing profit...
If that were true why are they now just another VAG brand?

Regardless of financial situations and trading success or failures or who is in control I'm talking about maximizing profit on cars, I don't see what the has to do with the VW group? They'll still would of charged an extra 21k for an ecu remap, a set of wheels and fancy headlights.

love it, although if it sounds like a standard turbo, it won't sound all that great. stunning looking thing though, with the figures to boot. very expensive, but can't see it being too far off the 458 italia for 40k less.

I can imagine some of the roadtesters might crack 0-60 in 2.9s with this given they did 3.2s in poor cold conditions before Christmas.

And although it is just yet another Porsche 911 version it actually looks good value for money because it is not much more than all those extra bits on top of the regular 997 turbo, and being the S might not depreciate as much.

I think it would blow your socks off. Mind you same can be probably said for the 458.

More parts from the global bin.
It is round and held to the centre part by 3 'spokes' I'll give you that much. Other than that it's nothing like it.

Lovely! Have always found something special about the Turbo S that the regular Turbo just doesn't have. Is the exterior much different, though? Looking at it on my iPhone I can't see any differences apart from the wheels, which are of course an option on the Turbo anyway. I went round Porsche's track at Silverstone a few weeks back in a Turbo Gen II Cabriolet, and that was plenty fast enough! This should be spectacular.

Looking forward to the Gen II GT2 and GT2 RS!

That cabriolet looks bloody awful! Every new version of the 911 makes me like them even less!

Ok so what your saying is before VW take control of Porsche (because they haven’t yet) Porsche approach VW and ask for a steering wheels design f their new flag ship 911 that has no doubt been on the cards for months and months?

Errr… No.

Porsche has revealed a new top-of-the-range 911 for customers who it says will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S.
Umm......

Wouldn't that be the... er... GT2?

Edited by Jaykaybi on Monday 8th February 13:20
Nope, the GT2 is not currently available for sale. See here: http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/911/ The price is TBC

love the interior, almost as nice as my boxter! needs something extra externaly to distinguish it for lesser models, perhaps this one might be able to beat the GTR, also will it have a nice exhaust sound, turbos always seem to sound so anemic..

A pointless exercise unless you are

A) Porsche who need/want to sell more cars and stay in business
or
B) You have too much money and need to be one step above everyone else

I love the 911 it's beautiful and clever engineering but all supercars are pretty pointless as anything other than desirable objects. The clever engineering and performance are pure marketing features.

I drive a 3 series in the week on motorways and struggle to get over 70 mph.

I drive a kit car at the weekend and struggle to find decent bendy roads with no potholes that are free of cars that are driven at 40 mph.

Wonderful technology but if you can't use it, pointless.

911s became like Windows PCs with tons of processors to choose from (old and new) without quite knowing what difference do they make in practice. It seems like, whatever 911 you buy, before you run it in, there will be a newer "uber" version arriving in the show rooms.

From the perspective of a an ordinary Porsche enthusiast who cannot keep it up with all the upgrades, the best strategy seems to pick what you like once and ignore such news for some years to come. Pretty much the same way how most of us buy PCs.

I know nobody likes change, yadayadaya.....however it would be nice to see a little change from the design chaps at Porsche.

It's a fabulous car, but it's slowly but surely beginning to get....well....a little boring from the design point of view....

(I'm sure I'll get obliterated by all for these comments frown).

The problem with this car is that it is an S.
When people ask what car you drive you will answer A 911 Turbo S.
To which they will reply, Turbo S? how is that different to a Turbo?
You will then go off on one explaining this, which you will, half way through they will have hanged themselves from the nearest light fitting.
'It's like a turbo but even faster!' Bada-bing! Done.

I was thinking of the kicking The Ferrari 458 got for not offering a manual.

That is a rather good analogy to describe the current 911 market.

How many 997.2 versions have still to come out before they start again with the 998?

You need to move then! Plenty of great driving roads around here.
