I always buy the person selling the car, not the car - I've walked away from a nice looking car if I feel the salesperson is full of st or trying psychological bks.

If a salesperson tries to bullst me I will fight back if I'm in the mood.

Example:

Wanting to look at a new Skoda Octavia VRS, the sales manager doesn't seem to be arsed and insists on first talking about my part-ex, even though I told him I want a look at the car first to see if I like it. So he then tells me the book price for my part-ex audi A4 is £11k but they are currently making a lot less than book price.

I asked what is the point of using the "book" if the price in it is not correct for my car?

He said well that's how it works. I say that his book is useless, if the guide price in it is not what my car is anywhere worth.

We go around in this circle for a few mins as he couldn't give me a sensible answer and he got angrier and angrier whilst I kept my cool - eventually I said thanks I'll come back again.

As we walked out my ex saw him storm into his office and throw the "book" at the wall.

I will treat you as I expect to be treated. If you start to play games, I will play games back until I get bored and go and buy a car somewhere else.

It worries me how many "customers" must fall victim to these techniques.

Another ex-worked at a car supermarket in Salford for a few weekends asking customers to fill in questionnaires about something or other, and when she was sat with the salesmen some of the conversations and banter about taking customers for a ride was shocking. They loved bragging about stitching customers up! Nasty.

The books are printed and posted in the last week of a month for the next month, they are estimates as to a vehicles value. Many dealers have a system where they can watch cars going through the auctions on their computers. Its often alot more accurate.

EuroTax Glass's and CAP can get it wrong. If there is over supply then cars through the auction will go "Below book". Likwewise if there is great demand for a car, they will sell "above book". You tend to find that your repmobiles will go below book because there is always good supply of them. However little citycars will go above book, because dealers cant get enough of them.

Hi, I know this, I was just messing with the sales manager because he was being an arse generally.

Im pretty much rude to all sales people. Very rarely do I come across one who I regard as worthy of something more than contempt. Those that I dont regard as fkwits I invariably buy from.

And you, Dear Sir, are the kind of Idiot I'd love to play games with if I could be bothered. The likes of you are not worthy of my time!

You probably drive some snotter of an R plate Astra anyway. Rude losers normally do!

That'll be you then - a gobby Youth. That figures!!
Hardly, I'm 38 with three children!

Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh that you consider yourself to be a seasoned professional! It's about the best oxymoron I've heard in a long time : professional car salesman.
I couldn't help laugh at your choice of vehicle!
What choice of vehicle would that be then?
You mean you don't know what car you drive? I'd already guessed that you were a bit 'special' but come on..........

In the mid 80's I went on a course which was run by a fella that had worked for Pendle and he called it 'Gentle Persuasion'
It was the same format as Pendle but without the oppressive nature and was more geared up to extracting as much info as possible, going to the sales controller who gave you some keys and you get the car out and running and then you would get the punter from the 'closing room' and sit them in the car and take them for a drive.
If your qualification was correct they would buy it.
Didn't always work though and a few tricks or sayings backfired.

Victor, I am going to put this bluntly. Stop being a tt and change jobs. You are not suited at all to the work you do, regardless of how many cars you sell. You are an embarrasment and an ahole.

Don't see the point going round giving people a hard time for no other reason because of what they do for a living.

Life is hard enough as it is without having to come across as a cock.

Very true.

Mind you, there are cocks in all walks of life.

I only look for the good in people.

Then call them a cock.

hehe

The point is that you don't know what I drive. If you do then prove it by telling me. Otherwise, continue your rudeness to your customers during the week. It's wearing a bit thin in here.

Well page 1 started with a bit of a constructive debate. Skip to page 8 and all hell's kicked off. biggrin

Back on topic, I don't see any point in being rude, regardles if you feel you're justified. If they're being rude or a knob, why stoop to their level.

I'm sure if you have a smidge of intelligence you can point out that you don't believe what they are saying without getting all arsey with them.

Vote with your money. If you don't like what they have to say, either speak to someone else or take your business elsewheere. Most sales people are on some kind of commission so if they lose a sale it will affect their pocket.

Life really is too short for playing rude tit for tat.

A Defender is an uncool car? Since when?

I must say that I agree : this is becoming a rather unpleasant thread.

fks sake can people just not be civil to each other? You can play the game, and still have a laugh with the other party. I always try and do deals like this. I would take great pride in proving someone wrong if they misjudged me, but I wouldn't be a about it. Salespeople don't need the sale that bad that they would put up with someone being a st to them, and punters don't want snotty treatment before they've even said a word. Maybe grow up a bit?

Classic!

Bad week at Carcraft then Petal? :-)

Perhaps you could ease up on the poor language? I appreciate that your vocabulary may be limited but even so..........
