Had a 2litre 5 version of this, found it a heavy and not particularly fun car to drive. Looked cool in white, with the Quattro ring decals, but it wasn't fast, even with a few tweaks. I'd have a UR in a heart-beat mind
According to the Autocar 1985 timed figures

0-60 8.9
0-100 27.0
Max 120

( They did comment that the test conditions were wet enough to hamper the acceleration times on the day )

A Mk1 Golf Gti 1800 was about a second quicker to 100 and a few mph down on top speed for comparison.

In the mid 80s I don't expect it felt too slow for a 2 litre coupe.

The new front wheel drive Celica GT with 150bhp was about 2.5 seconds faster to 100 and about 10 mph quicker top end

Lago blue is a sort of stealth colour - I had a 2226 non turbo coupe quattro and then a 2226 MB quattro turbo both in that colour.

And here's my old turbo (as featured in Wikipedia):

Does anyone know if E50JBC is still alive?

Yay!

They never did a 2.3, that was the later ones. The 2226cc was the biggest.
The Early 2144cc is called the 2.2 and the later 2226cc was called the 2.3 to differentiate them.
The 2.3 refers to the later 2309cc engines fitted to the series 3 Typ 89 cars also some of the C3 Audi 100's, which never found it's way into one of these Typ 85 models. Well, not from factory!

Well I never, I spent weeks refurbishing all the running gear on E50JBC when I owned it. Every bush and balljoint was renewed and I stripped and rebuilt all the CV joints - 9 in total!! It also got new dampers, tyres, the knock sensors, seat bases, rear screen reservoir, brake bomb, clutch, calipers overhauled, headlights, cam belt. Even fitted the Ford Scorpio handbrake return springs to the rear calipers to cure the dragging caused by the feeble VAG parts. Phew - dunno how my finances stood the strain back then! Used to buy everything from http://www.quattrocorner.com/

Me and Mrs wife then went on a big European tour taking in all points to Pisa and back. Even crested the Col de l'Iseran and the Cime de la Bonnette. Still got loads of photos of the refurb and of that trip.

Here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=190196&i...

Had a crafty day in Ingolstadt on the way north and took in a factory tour but had to opt for the German lingo one because we'd missed Ze Englisch tour that day.

Have passed that link on to the current owner! I'm sure he'll be happy to see pics of her!

It is probably one of the best looked after quattro's around, and I'm sure the current owner won't disagree with me saying he's a tad anal when it comes to looking after his cars!

Thanks for all the comments guys, good and bad!
Ive just sold the Audi for the full asking price, being nominated SOTW certainly helped with the number of enquiries over the past few days!

Weren't they called 90 quattros if they had a 5-pot in or was it a very early one?
It was an early one '83 A plater in red. I had standard steel wheels, so was a bit of a sleeper (apart from the sound).
Here's a pic of my old '84 Audi 80 b2 quattro 2.2. I bought it from the workshop manager at GTi Engineering in Brackley. It had a full leather interior and some tasteful engine resulting in approx 155 bhp.
A year later my missus wrote it off. r.i.p B39KPE

Sounds like a nice car - shame.

Didn't GTi Engineering do a 2.5 10-valve n/a engine for the later shape ( E-reg on ) 90 quattro?

Had a 2.2 GT as my first car in the early 90's, cost me £200 as it had no seats LOL, then cost me £1200 to insure 3rd party in my Dads name rolleyes

How I lived through a year of ownership I don't know, speed to talent ratio was all wrong, thank god for fairly docile understeery handling, I thought I was a rally god though. Had great fun racing my mate down the lane, me in the GT, him on his RD350LC, where I learnt about brake fade and trees are hard, hedges are softer.

off to ebay for a trawl.....

Mr Koni and Mr Eibach had words with mine, their friend Mr Polybush came along too. Understeer wasn't an issue.

Probably going to get another track car (something the Audi would have been rubbish at!) Maybe a MR2, but not decided yet....

Certainly looks a nice example - although it is a bit over the normal 1k budget. As Audi Coupes go though you don't see many in the condition that one looks in the photos

Don't have any pics of mine, but often wonder if A821WUS still exists.
