Woooahh, thats a step front Bertone Coupe 1300GTj, if that really is as good as it looks you have a very desirable little car there.
Be very careful where you let it go too and how much. these cars are very much in demand at the moment, particularly the step fronts, they are a great little car in their own right, but are also the basis for the replica GTA which are all the rage at the moment.
Yup, it looks like a Step front, not the normal 1300 GT Junior. I would love one - where do we start the bidding ;-)Be very careful where you let it go too and how much. these cars are very much in demand at the moment, particularly the step fronts, they are a great little car in their own right, but are also the basis for the replica GTA which are all the rage at the moment.
Quite seriously here, the OP needs to go and find somebody who knows what they are looking at to value that car. I'd suggest you get in touch with the local area of the Alfa Owners club, am I right in thinking you are on the south coast?. There are some good Alfa specialists down there get a coupl round to have a look.
It also might be worth your while getting a copy of this little book, it will tell you where to look for the corrosion. Basicaly that car could be worth anything from £2000.00 to about £12000.00 depending entirely on it's condition under the carpet!.

OK quick history lesson.
When these cars were introduced back in 1964, the front had a little step in front of the bonnet. The cars stayed like this with either 1600 or 1300 engines including the aluminium GTA's (£50.000 at least!) until late in 67 when the four headlamp 1750GTV was introduced, they smoothed over the little step and altered the frontal appearance.
The step front cars carried on for another couple of years with 1300 engines only, eventually being dropped in about 72. From then until 76 Alfa sold two headlamp and four headlamp versions with 1.3, 1.6, and 2.0 engines. (the blue one in the link is the two headlamp flat front car (probably the least desirable... sorry Jimmyjam!)
Many Alfa enthusiasts will say the 1750GTV four headlamp car is the pick of the bunch, it probably is, the 1750 goes better and the interior is a peach, but the step front cars have a very strong following because of their visual appearance more closely matches a GTA. To be honest that means a lot of them get buggered about with to create replica's, so very few of them are original like this. The only slight drawback this car has is it's a 69 registered car, which means it's not eligible for certain racing/rallying series. But that means it's more likely to be left un mollested which might be a good thing.

Thanks for that, I think it might be worth a trip to have a closer look and a more detailed chat to my dad's friend.
No idea what the mileage is or what condition it is in on the inside, underneath or under the bonnet, but I am planning to see if we can roll it out of the garage and get a better feel for the condition.

Looks pretty similar to mine! It's definitely a car that deserves to be liberated, run and enjoyed. I guess your options are to run it yourself, just advertise it as it is (alfa owners club, ebay, classicalfa.com or other classic websites) or to take it to a specialist who will sell it for you.
If the latter do I gather it is near the South Coast? You could try Ian Ellis in Brighton or Rusper Alfa.
It's really difficult to tell how good the car is from pics. As I know to my cost shiny white paint can hide all sorts of horrors - or it could all be fine. Who knows?

Thanks for all the infomation guys, much appreciated.
I am going to go and have a closer look in a couple of weekends time when my dad is back in the country, with luck we'll be able to pull it out of the garage and have a good old poke around. I'll take a load of pics and grill the owner some more and report back in a few weeks.
