"Finally, the 918 Spyder has cameras that replace the door mirrors, and although they are not currently legal, Durheimer is hoping Porsche can convince the relevant legislators to give the technology the green light."

This car has a lot of similarities with the Carrera GT, looking at the exposed parts of the CF-tub. The design, like the Carrera GT, draws a lot of inspiration from racing Porsche's of the 60s; I see a lot of 718 RSK, and some 917 in it. It also has the familiar Porsche Family Face (TM), very recognizable from the front. I also like the double air-scoops mounted behind the rollover hoops, they remind me of the airbox from the Lotus 72 F1 car and a pair of rocket launchers.
I bet the 3,4-liter V8 engine is the 9R6 racing V8 out of the RS Spyder, beautiful thing that...

how is the v8 a continuation of the flat6 in the spider? (sic)
Because the RS Spyder doesn't have a flat 6. It has a 3.4litre V8.Edited by eirik on Tuesday 2nd March 09:49
Can we thank VW for this? Without them stepping in and taking Porsche over they would not be in a position to produce this car. And the fact that the farther of the Veyron heads up VW makes me even more confident that Porsche will put this into production.
The thing that delights me most is the break away from the 911 styling buck that has put me off Porsche for the last 15 years. Yes they make great cars but from a styling point of view they have been a victim of their own success

Generally speaking, I dislike Porsches. I've always known how good they are but to me they are utterly devoid of any appeal. Endless rehashing of the same shape that was unremarkable 40 years ago. Crappy interiors Porschophiles stubbornly refuse to admit are uninspired, cheap looking and genrally toss. Maybe it's also that they seem to attract the fan boy, a pet hate of mine. You know them, the people who "support" a car manufacturer in the same way they do a football team. They ignore anything that doesn't glorify their "team" and spout ill informed bile at the first opportunity about rivals, generally without ever reading or taking on board review or expert opinion. They dog these boards with their nonsense and are often wannabes while actual owners tend not to be like that. All in all, Porsches and the culture around them get on my generous man boobs. If I have to read another review about another GT3 or RS thats the same as ever I'll have to eat my own face in frustration, but....
By the beard of Zeus this thing is wonderful! This is a fabulous design and the technology is also droolworthy. I wish I had the means to buy one of these when it lands. It's really a game changer for me, perhaps I was becoming an anti fan boy myself, but this little beauty has swept it all away.
