Yawn...........

For that money Aston martin V12 Vantage please, so much more special, heck even an R8 is more special!! Porsche for all their engineering ability need to create a car that is £100k special and this simply isn't. Come on Porsche, the games moved on and you have been caught resting on your laurels!!

Regards,

Supersonic
What you mean that Vantage that looks like a DB9 that looks like a Vanquish? That kind of design and engineering? As for R8s, well for me, they are boring looking. I wouldn't have this 911 for me the pinnacle of prosche engineering is the RS but this is still a decent car but I see what you mean it doesn't look special enough for the price tag, perhaps a lot more spoilers on it and some fancy bling wheel would make it look like ti deserved the price tag rolleyes
Well if my car looked like any of the current Aston range i wouldn't be complaining! When you have such a beautiful car in the first place (DB9), you would be stupid as a company not to replicate such a winning formula up and down the range?! Especially when you consider the tiny engineering budget Aston survive on, is why the VMH platform sharing between models has been key to them!

But surely Porsche must win the prize hands down for inventing endless new variants of the same old format every month!! Few months ago, it was the new 997-2 Turbo, now its the Turbo S, whats next month the Turbo S-S?!!! Enough already! Get a C2S or C4S if you want the best of both worlds, or get a GT3 if you want to go track racing. Simples!
Not saying that Astons are not pretty cars because they are. I just think they lack something between the range. For example the Mrs saw a DB9 the other day and asked if we could swap our M5 for a Vantage. I pointed out ot her that the car in front was a db9, she replied with the "oh... they all look the same don't they"

And if you think Porsche are bad for enless variants of the same car have a look at lotus. Its special edition week every week with them.

Awesome car but that is 997 GT2 money and that is where my cash would be going.

So, a bit like Citroen with the DS about 50 years ago!

Sounds epic-ly rapid.

WTF are "bending lights" tho??
well, the Turbo S goes so fast, that it can actually bend light and disrupt the space time continuum so you arrive before you set off laugh

Actually the lights sense when you are cornering and illuminate where you are heading.

Ahh..! So they're 'Cornering lights' then. Makes sense. 'Bending lights' sounds a bit special tbh.

Turbo S is back. Nice. smile

Anyone who is not sure about the price... just wait for the real world figures on this thing... Porsche always come up with the goods on their specials.

Where does this fit into the 911 pecking order?

Well, in 2010 there were 18 different varieties of the 911. This model is the 3rd quickest, 4th fastest, 8th most expensive, one of 3 models without air conditioning.......of course no one really knows the difference except for a couple of guys at pistonheads and Bob, the P factory janitor.

This no doubt will be spectacular, however, even as a Porsche owner and fan, I do have to concede that the Turbo does need to become a little more 'special'. Performance aside, next to other £100k, the 911 does come up a little shy. There's not that much to differentiate the Turbo from the Carrera as far as creature comforts and aesthetic titillation goes.

But.. a large portion of these cars ARE bought for their performance rather than their pose factor, so I guess it doesn't matter! The 911 Turbo and most certainly this new Turbo S has performance that exceeds the price tag.

remarkably poor effort.

The backlooks like a 996 and the exhaust exit cluster is horrible. I agree with whoever said they should have done an aero job on this!

How does this compare price and performance wise to the GT2?

The usual high quality engineering from Porsche is evident, but it seems a bit bland to me.

There appears to be so many 911s that you can choose from that I must be starting to become immune to them. The colour or those bloody awful wheels don't help this particular one IMO, but as a daily driver (albeit an expensive one) there's probably not many that can better it.

I would say all things considered its probably about the same. GT2 has 520bhp, 997.2 Turbo S has 530.

The turbo has option of PDK, which the GT2 does not.

The PDK and the AWD is what gives the amazing 0-60 times.

You cant buy a new GT2 now though, they are all sold.

My issue would be, Turbo S or Sport Classic.....

If only I had to make that decision! frown

I doubt you can even buy a new GT2 at the moment. As a guess all the build slots are sold out.

PDK cars accelerate much faster than their manual conterparts, so taking that into account I would say that it would be considerably quicker than the GT2 in a straight line...

I think the 997 looks so dated already. The facelifts haven't helped an old shape look any younger
