Seem to have gone up again... above the rises earlier in the year. I am seeing 116p for unleaded at the local supermarket and 119p on the motorway.

Oil is $80 per barrel. Not $140 at the peak of the last bubble

Just how much higher will it go in 2010 ? Any guesses.....

Tax is due to increase at the start of April, so I'd expect about £1.20 by then. By the end of the year I would guesstimate about £1.40/litre

Around here in the south east, we're currently at 1.149 for both petrol and diesel.

A complete guess, but my predictions for the end of the year are:

£1.249/litre for petrol
£1.279/litre for diesel

£1.16 per litre = £5.30 a gallon FFS.

Just glad I gave up smoking given the price of a pack of 20 these days....

Oh absolutely, I hear the Monster Raving Loony Party is putting fuel prices at the top of their agenda...

I renmember when the new pumps came in ages ago with space for THREE DIGITS before the decimal point. And recoiling in horror that petrol would ever be that expensive!
So i would not be surprised if it was to go up to £1.50+

£1.50 would not surprise me if the global economy picks up.

I'm currently quitting smoking, I'd rather be able to drive roughly 25 miles than smoke for a day.

Yes, both parties have different ideas about how to fix the economy. If you read the News Forum, one party will turn us into an third-world country (making petrol very expensive) and the other will lead us into a new British Empire based in the Falklands (or something).

wink

After a few tests with the 98RON ...I gave up the high octane stuff... nice if you have the spare cash but at not so sure at that price.

Could your car actually take advantage of the extra octane?

Mine is mapped for 100 so V-Power/T99 is the order of the day.

All depends on the USD exchange rate, the recent devaluations haven't hit fuel yet, and are being priced in for April deliveries. Tax rises and absolute cost of oil in dollar terms will cause smaller fluctuations

How much more sterling falls does depend on the next government, and it's appetite for public sector destruction, and the likelihood of more printy printy from the BoE.

Oh, and if the US suffers some inflation later in the year and the fed puts their rates up a smidge, we're fked.

But anyone who says they can second-guess the FX markets - and isn't a billionaire - is lying smile

I think now is the time for an impressive well-informed projection graph by a technically minded individual of previous years-worth averaging-out in annual increase of fuel prices?
So not from me then...
