Exactly. Did Ferrari drive the car to the track, lap it sub-7, and drive it home again? Much as I think 'Ring times are irrelevant, shouting about something that is only second best seem somewhat silly.

Is it road legal? I took a stab at it being road legal-ish!
Massa will be wanting one of these soon. biggrin

It looked and sounded great on track on our Destination-Nürburgring track day on Monday.

I was driving a friends 996 RS as it caught me at Hohe Acht - thought I'd be able to tag onto it through Wipperman at least, but no, it pretty much mooched away from me! (I'm no Sabine but I don't hang about either)

Lovely thing, very privileged to have it there.

It'll either drive there and back (a road legal car), or it won't (a track car)

Surely that is enough of a classification as you need if you are trying to use it to market your road cars?

Production derived is about as vague as you can get. I mean if you bought any car and modified it until it beat this time, you could claim it was production derived too, couldn't you or is there a rule book somewhere about this?

No they did not drive it there.

It is transported on a truck, as the 599XX can not be road registered (not even in Italy) - therefore the time this car has posted is utterly irrelevant to anyone outside of Ferraris marketing department!

Any word on who the driver was. The chap who drove the one there at Easter looked particularly disgruntled about the snow when he truntled from the back seat of a BMW to the drivers seat of the 599XX smile

Yep, it was Rafaele de Simone - there's also an in-car vid that we're just uploading. Should be on the homepage soon...

Pretty silly really now every GT1 touring car will post a time the Astom Martin DB9's are probably closer to the road going version in fact than that is to a 599 such a stupid bit of advertisement for Ferrari. It doesn't even have headlights :-)

What do people expect? It's all publicity for the company (granted they probably need it far less than others) but you can't exactly blame them, can you?

PR bks:-
1) it's not road-legal; and
2) there are at least 2 road legal cars that are (or are waiting to be proved) faster than it anyway. So Ferrari are liars.

Porsche - please let Walter take a GT3 RSR around there and show that pansy Fiat the way home! biggrin
