Sorry I'm confused

Is this all the 1.8 variants, the n/a's too, or just the SC'd ones?

If it's the former then I find it even more confusing.....
Agreed, and what engine will replace it?

I had thought the Toyota engine was selected BECAUSE of it's ability to comply with required gases output levels.

Damn all these cars being killed off before I can afford to own them. Words cannot describe the loathing and hate I have for these cretinous environmentalists. They choose cars because for some reason they are an easy target. Sort out the bigger issues first! I could rant all day, but co2 is something like a 0.04% part of the global warming bks so why focus on that, what about the other 99.6%???? What about planes, power-stations, volcanoes even! shootfurious

Phewww.... deeep breath and... relax.
You're an idiot. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emission_sta...
Thanks for that, and yes I have read it, I only chose to mention CO2, I can write an essay on the whole situation if you prefer? My other point about cars being a small part of the problem still also stands. But thanks all the same. thumbup

Well since you were talking about the cars being killed off and then went on to talk about CO2, when in fact there is no limit on CO2 in the emissions, I just jumped to a crazy crazy conclusion that you didn't understand what Euro emissions targets were about. Forgive me if what you were actually doing was posting a confusing post that had a rambling point to make.

Methane is 20x more harmful to the environment than CO2, that's a fact.

Kill all the cows I say. Milk is disgusting anyway and bacon is a better form of meat. Win win situation.

As above, it's nothing to do with economy or CO2 emissions.

Of course this has nothing to do with Toyota stopping production of the current engine.

I would assume that Toyota are stopping production at least partially because of moving emissions targets, though? Although I thought the Japanese and certain US targets were significantly stricter than EU ones.

I hope there's a new 1.8 engine. And I think my 1.6 Caterham is underpowered....

It scarcely seems credible that a 1.8 engine pushing something as light as a Lotus would fall foul of some regulation. It's not a huge 'special' engine. Makes me wonder what kind of cars we will be forced to drive in the future.

Autocar 2nd June 2010, page 19 seems to suggest Lotus are going to fit the Exige with the Evora's V6 engine. I doubted it at the time but maybe it is all part of this? I wonder what a supercharged V6 would be like? Would it have to lose some of it's fancy variable timing equipment?
