Yep mine was Wheelnut and when you met up with people it was called an 'eyeball'. Made quite a few friends from it at the time as well, although you still had to be careful.

You'd then hand over an 'eyeball card' to prove you had met them, the more you had the better.

Not CB radio. But if anyone is interested (SWL or Ham) there is a great tunable on-line radio at:

www.m4mq.com

Allows SSB and CW listening and with a 'waterfall' effect its much easer to find stations.

Trouble is, its too addictive.

Mate got a handheld one in about 1983 and we used it Lunchtimes at school in Oxford. Just fxcked about on it, didn't have a clue about protocols etc and upset lot's of people. In fact I clearly remember some guy called "scooter man" setting up a fight with us outside Brett's Burgers by the station. We never turned up but taunted him over the CB which got him proper mad!

What a plum!

I had one in my company van when I first started work as a mobile alarm engineer in the late 80s.

With no Sat Nav around, it proved invaluable for getting directions to premises - much easier than driving with an A-Z on the steering wheel.

"1-9 directions......."

Shown is a Uniden sidebander a Colt sidebander and an FM radio.

Right, weekend just gone and this evening I decided to fire up one of my FM CBs.

This one that I got cheap a couple of years back has a scan feature and does UK40 and the CEPT FM as well.

I suppose being (slightly) in the sticks does not count but guess how many stations or contacts I got?
Yup.
NONE frown

So, when I get some time I may power up one of the sidebanders (if I can find the power lead).

We've been getting a lot of propagation lately, particularly in the afternoon/evening so I recommend putting it on 27.555 and seeing if you can get anything.

Also, where in the sticks are you?

27.555 - I wish I could frown Both need modding as they are 'mid band' only. I was going to eprom them up but its one of jobs that I never got round to.

I am just down from Lowestoft.

I know it is the same style as The Dukes Of Hazzard but $228 (so far). Maybe people DO pay that much for the authentic look.

My neighbour (G8NEY) got me into radio when I was a young teenager.. never did the RSGB exams, just stuck to CB.

At one point I had an Antron 99 on the back of my parents house the top of which was something stupid like 75ft off the ground, I managed some amazing QSOs when the skip was running - Canada being the best one, verified by QSO card and on 4 watts 27mhz FM as well... that was an awesome nightime DX session.

Still have several rigs now, including a USA one bought in Walmart for use when travelling over there.
