My theory with VAG cars is they give an illusion of quality, and inside is very nice and quiet. But get under the plastic engine cover, and they're pretty st in all honesty.
That's a great theory, care to base it on something?

The most unreliable car I ever owned was a VAG. Went wrong more times and cost more to fix than my other few dozen cars all added up.

Still, they make a nice dash and glossy adverts to convince the gullible public otherwise
:raises hand of gullibility:

I knew they had a problem with coil packs. I didn't know that the coil packs were merely the tip of a very expensive iceberg.

My wife's mkiv GTI 1.8T is the most unreliable car I've owned, it has now surpassed a 1993 mk1 Clio I had at 18 as the most costly car I've owned in terms of repairs now that the waterpump has died (before this there were level pegging) and the build quality is appaling with various bits of trim either coming off in my hand or just working loose. May & June was a milestone in Golf ownership though, they were the only months since October that something for the VW didn't appear on my bank statements.
My VAG car was a never ending misery. Ive now got my dads old BMW and at 160,000 miles of often hard driving and a bit of neglect from him, a spring has broken and the ABS ECU failed, the spring was due to hitting a pothole very hard and the ABS ECU left the car perfectly driveable. My brothers VAG car was a never ending stream of problems as was a friend of mines. He replaced his with an RX-8 that has been a lot more reliable.

And I like 300bhps posts, I think a lot of people pay him no heed because of sounding like a total fanboy, but a lot of what he has to say is sense and he seems to have had experience of some of the yank tanks.

Personally I can't really see what's wrong with vag products . I can tell you that I rather have an rs6 avant over a lambo or amg or m5 all day long. And it seem Audi designers are doing a very good job (bar the a3 ) which is quite old now

I like to pretend that S-Line is real - whenever he pops up I'm just chortling away like an idiot. Indeed - I WANT him to be real - that way whenever I see an Audi I can pretend it might be him driving it biggrin
+1

Everytime I see an Audi now I just think 'the finish, the power, the handling, the imagine...' - always cheers me up biggrin

I currently run a Audi a4 tdi s-line and although it is a nice car it's not any better than any others in the same group and tbh I prefer my old 330d sport more.

Bit of a scoop here. I hear the S-Line is now defunct and they are bringing out a T-line - there will be a special launch at an Audi dealership where you will be treated like a VIP with a few white lines of their own to make you buy one. wink

There's the alternative universe of the Yank Tank, too... the cubic capacity, the wobbly handling, the overall stness...

Well, that's assuming he's for real.

but this one is definitely for real.

frosted, explain how a car with the engine ahead of the front axle can be well engineered and designed? Audis are still all (except for the R8) based on cheap, mass-use, front wheel drive platforms.

To get you started...

Does it have "the finish, the power, the handling, the imagine" in big letters on the back? smile

It sounds like Engrish doesn't it?

Someone needs to mock up an Audi DTM or Le Mans car with this as a sunstrip, or written across the rear wing.

Thing is, while you, and others.... label me as a singular fanboy, you all miss the mark hehe the only think I'm truly a fanboy of are cars, interesting and/or fast ones. And to a lesser degree V8 engines.

True I have personal favourites and do enjoy many American performance cars, but you'll also find me a regular of the Offroad forum, the Land Rover forum and the Jap forums too. smile
