Waiting to pull out of a side road, when there was a collision on the main road, and one of them pinballed backwards into me frown.
Managed to hit the door dead centre, but the MR2 is so low the sill looks untouched.

I had to get out of the passenger door, which required some contortions.

I worried I was going to be here last night. M1, near Leicester last night, clear traffic, 80ish MPH (awaits our Brake members....) lane 4 just overtook a car. Suddenly a gust caught the back end of the car (which must be 1.7 tonnes?) and pushed the car diagonally to near 45 degrees. For a second or two my forward view was of the central reservation, and I really thought I was about to have a big one. Straightened up after (probably) a far smaller unit of time than it felt, but it woke me up somewhat!
Nothing like driving to the conditions eh?
Check you out, aren't you just the man, eh?
Wind strong enough to push a 1.7 tonne car sideways and billy big balls carries on doing 80. Great, what could possibly go wrong.

Me a member of BRAKE rofl
Oh bore off. Funny thing about wind, you can't see it. Never made a misjudgment driving, no? Most of the traffic was going around my speed all of the way up from London, some stuff faster. Were we all idiots?

Apart from the wind as you got into the car, the trees and shrubs moving, the noise, the weather forecast, the feel as the car gets pushed a bit. No, no hints at all it is windy.

I tend to make my own judgements, my mum taught me that sticking my finger on the fire because my brother dared me, wasn't a clever thing to do.

The wind as I got in to the car, 2 hours earlier? Yes, I made a judgement, and it may have been the wrong one. But tell me, would the same thing not have happened were I going 60? If I were going 60 I'd arguably have been MORE of a danger. The safest speed to travel on a motorway is a similar speed to the rest of the traffic.

Ouch. Did you get away with just the door or did it bend the frame in the process?

I parked on a rock.
By accident.
Don't know how I managed to get over it.
But for real, I was delivering amazon parcels, and I pulled up to this house. I gave them their parcel and I proceeded to drive away, I was accelerating in 1st gear. Then the car jolts about and stops moving, try to keep driving, but the car isn't moving and the wheels are spinning, I go look and one wheel is off the ground.
The best thing was when I asked the person I delivered the parcel to if they happened to have a car jack so I can lift the car and get rid of the boulder.
Surprisingly they didn't want any money for the damaged rock!
I still don't know how a fiesta with 80bhp managed to get over that thing, absolute torque monster laugh

I'm hoping it's just the door, but we'll have to wait until the side skirt is removed to see.

Even finding a door may be a challenge - there's not many mk1 MR2's here in Aus.

I think frame is english, and predates America. Door frame is perfectly clear, what would you prefer?

Full length sunroof?

I know it is now but was it then? Never seen one of those Panda models!

And I believe that he is referring to the 'chassis' which is an integrated monocoque. I suspect that you realise this too, but just wanted to be forum.

This is the best image of the damage - the area of concern is the side rail below the door. It looks straight, but the gap between it and the fibreglass side skirt is what worries me.

I'd call it the side or chassis rail, or maybe the sill - but I don't really care what it's called, as long as it's not bent.

Absolutely gutted for you. Those MR2s are truly special machines. Hope you get it back on the road soon.

I don't remember seeing many without a sunroof or T bar.....
