Recently had an Escalade in Florida (thanks Hertz!) which had air-conditioned seats and even in shorts and T-shirt the effect was very subtle. I suppose if it was noticeably cold then your back would stiffen up.

Had a few of them in the car fleet at work. Nice cars. One had the EGR issue but that seems to effect so many others too.

IMO one of the best built interiors out there. Solid, not a hint of cost cutting. Audi/BMW/Merc take note.

What I can't understand is the gearing. How did it ever get passed the testing phase of the car? I found it useless below 80mph and not really happy until 85. I'm sure some of the poor economy people experience is due to them trying to drive 60-70 in 6th. It ruins the waftability if traffic is heavy.

Never realised those rear were so wide, crikey!

When I bought my is250 , I did ask why the seats don't fold and it seems most their customers don't want rattle.

I had one for about 6 months and 20,000 miles. Perfectly reliable, comfortable, just under 50mpg, but dull and slow. I only saw a dealer once and they were excellent (Cheltenham). I've now got a 159 and it is faster, comfier, but much worse on fuel (fraction under 40mpg average in the 2.0 diesel) and dealers are rubbish.

How is it now Tonk? Would be interested to hear. They seem to be good value compared to a 3 series. They are better looking I think.

My Mum has a Lexus IS250 SE and whenever anything has needed to be done to it (such as, servicing etc) I've always taken it in for her. The car itself feels great, really nice handling, brilliant automatic gearbox with paddle shifts. Lexus too, have always been amazing, whenever it's gone in for anything minor, such as a rattling plastic wheel arch ( my mum hit some sort of animal). They even fully valet the car and give you a box of complimentary lexus sweets :-).

Basically, I would recommend getting an IS 100%, the car is very comfortable, it has an AMAZING sound system (Mark Levinson system), It's very quiet, brilliant build quality and Lexus overall are very helpful !

The one and only con with the car is that rear legroom is'nt great for adult passengers.

Quick answer - now i can see how you get 33000 posts...

Thanks, helpful. Need to buy a cheap but pokey and efficient diesel when i return to the UK in 6 weeks. Seems to fit the bill but shame the interior sounds so bad. However 50mph and comfy sounds good.

Reckon the Aero as a petrol version is worth it, or do you think its a car that suits diesel best? Figure the Aero's are almost cheap enough to justify.

That, or spunk a few more $ on a IS220D and chip apparently...

You bought a Toyota washing machine wink
You joke - but my Lexus is informally called the washing machine.....

Some cars jump up and bite you - they sparkle or sizzle when you drive them. Lexus cars do the opposite. Its only after a period of time do you actually understand and appreciate them. Its the small things that make the difference - they just work. Oh, and the reliability / service you get is second to none. Not perfect (what is?) but damn good. Although mine is far from the most interesting car to drive, I find myself drifting back to the brand for a replacement - just cannot think about not having that cast iron warranty.

1800kg but that derv lump pulls its along nicely. In a straight line its pretty much a match for my 888. If they managed to shed 300kg it would be a little rocket.

Did 250miles in my old mans yesterday, only annoying thing is crusing in 6th. Really have to be doing 80mph plus for 6th gear, otherwise it labours and gets a bit loud. However 5th gear pulls really nicely.

Lexus service is brilliant though, feel like the king when you go to a dealer.

Trawling Parkers the other day, noticed that a standard BMW 330d Touring sport auto tips the scales at a manufacturers figures of 1700kg. Add a few options that are essential in that type of car and I am sure you are getting close to 1800kg! It aint the only one that gets to those figures and the BMW is supposed to be the sporting one!!!

To be fair the manual box it's not what lexus are known for . Should think getting into 3rd is difficult ?
It is a heavy car , it has been designed to cruise and pretty much nothing else

A strange car to drive IMO, my Brother had one, it was good on the motorway, very quiet but around town I always felt the need to go down to first to get it into it's boost range.

I am sure with time you learn how to drive one.

They missed the mark with this car IMO.

Glad i found this topic...

Looking at a few replacements for my 2.0 Seat Leon and the IS220D is one of them. I do a lot of town driving mainly with the odd motorway run and not really getting a good result on the MPG in the leon - full tank gets me ruffly 380-400.

Hows the car doing now, any futher niggles?

And would you recommend the petrol over the diesel as going by a lot of posts the diesel doesnt really have that great a MPG compared to other cars?

Also, this lovely sound system.. would i be right in thinking easiest way to determin if a car has this fitted is the "multimedia" (large screen/nav) option installed?
