But as my first point where all this came from why not an M5, looking at your requirementas the M5 would be even better at doing what you need?? It can carry more, has more space internally and does everything else for all intense and purposes the same?
Boiled down to the fact that I truly disliked the appearance of the M5, ( i had had three E39s including an M5), and I did not mind the look of the M6. I was well aware of the fact that the performance differences were marginal. Also I have an SUV for towing and hauling dogs etc, so the practical need did not exist for four doors. No kids living at home so rarely take more than one passenger. Definitely a subjective choice.
Ah fair play, a reasonable, succint and considered point a gem on here indeed LOL beer

Actually......on the power v handling in the twisties thing....my wife (Puma 1.7)could comfortably keep me (Chimera 4l) behind her on a "proper" country road....also remember Ollie Marriage in EVO describing keeping an Audi TT at bay while piloting the long term Panda 100......handling and driver ability beats power on a twisty under normal circumstances.
However in the RX-8 v M6 debate......a car engineered/set up to be able to take quick corners at 150mph will always struggle to stay with one engineered/set up to take quick corners at 80mph...plus we are talking about sports car v GT in the sports cars natural hunting ground
appreciate that you are calling the RX8 a sports car thumbup

the answer is D.

Or more elaborately. Had the car for 3 weeks, my first poky car, unfamiliar road, GF nagging at me.
But at I hope at least the RX8 will be able to keep up with that Disco.
I was hoping for a. the Disco is a faster and a better handling car biggrin

These were the cars that made the best use of the BMW V10

Ascari A 10 http://www.supercars.net/cars/3324.html
Weismann MF5 http://www.wiesmann.com/en/models/gt_mf5

This is why i am sorry to see the back of that glorious V10 its a shame BMW never made an M1 using that engine it would have been sexual chocolate lol
Actually the Ascari had a tuned V8 from the E39 M5 not the E60's V10. ;-)

.. The original M6 was unloved too at the beginning if i recall. Very desireable cars now.
Really? what sort of prices do these fetch compared to the 3.0 Coupes that preceded?
You mean the model before , the CS ?
Yes the E9? model. What's a pristine M635csi worth?
I think the CS's are starting to be worth big money , the M635SCi's are not far behind

I guess the CS's will will alway be worth more just on rarity , and the original CSL must be mega money now
Some E9 CSL's have gone for £100k, the M635 ? £20k, £25k..
AFAIK both of these were Karmann designs, not Bangled. And before the computer took over.

Would love to have a go in one, even if they're god awful looking cars!

I wonder how many more would have been sold had the manual option from the States had been offered over here?

What will effect the "classic" connotation is the impression of the car, unfortunately for the M6 it has become a bling bling fashion accessory to alot of wannabe rappers and lower division footballers (I live in watford and we have alot of both)whereas the older 6 series wasn't, i must see 2 or 3 everyday with blacked out windows after market shiny wheels and gangsta rap blaring out, followed by a glare from the occupant as they drive by shouting at the young blonde girls, its not a great sales image for the car. This image will stay withit for a long time as it becomes the drug dealers car of choice as the value drops much like the E36 M3.

here, i've seen a couple of M6's at most. both driven by men approx 50 wearing smart, expensive looking suits. in another words, business men. near you, i assume they are old, high miled 630i's with M6 badges on, at best. i don't know about there, but the chav scum that live around here could certainly not afford even the cheaper M6 examples, let alone run one.

LOL i never said an RX8 was quicker, i stated an M6 struggled in a particular situation, which was in hard british countryside and how it was not proficient at speed due to the weight etc. as others were making claims about the great handling and prodigious grip, i was very clear about this.

I wish that was the case, but unfortunately not. I think Watford FC gets a bulk discount on the M6 lol. I will try to get some photos so you can see why they do not earn much respect round my way

I suspect this is because you can't tell the difference between an M6 and any other 6-series, much like the one you "raced". The M6 has basically zero body roll btw. rolleyes

I see you drive an M6 just looked up and it appears there are road testers that agree that on rough roads The M6 suffers that may well be due to the firm suspension stopping any damping as you need suspension travel on a rough road to keep the wheels in contact with the road, possibly his wasn't fitted with active suspension or something.

I realise it must be hard someone saying a car you have paid a significant amount of money for has faults but hey thats my opinion and this is "Opionheads" lmao

Much like the 8 series before it, and the Z8.

Seems BMW was building big expensive GT coupes when what the market wanted was big saloons/trucks and the Z4.

Never actually been in a V10 M car, but what a spine-tingling engine. A loss to motoring.
Drove an M5 through France and Germany a month back. It is a genuinely startling experience. It is one seriously impressive lump of metal, just uglier than a night out in Derby.

Doesn't seem very interesting. Different days, different drivers.

Nice.

But a twin-turbo V8 is hardly going to perform or dare I say it, sound 'less good' is it?
