The M6 was never designed to be a track car, so I dont' think it should really be judged that way.
Then it shouldn't it shouldn't have a ///M badge then.

Or a radio, leather, or the rest if you follow the logic. Its more like an AMG than an M3 in terms of positioning. Anyway, it is certainly not a car for everyone, but I enjoy it for what it is..a quick, civilized GT with tons of power and more roadholding than I am likely to need on any pubic road. The M3 GTS is much more of what you are referring to.

Yes RIP.

Awesome GT, fantastic engine and gearbox IMHO and a great buy at the current sub £30K price point. Practical and the looks grow on you. Even preffered it (just) to the CSL! Perhaps its me just getting old, but 6th and 7th in the M6 felt scarily fast even compared to other more (supposedly) powerful cars.

One of my alltime favourite cars...would have one over a 996 turbo anyday and if you don't need five seats I can't see why you'd buy an M5.

Awful lot of twaddle spoken by people who have never driven one (properly) as usual!

Yep. I found it takes a while to really find it's capabilities. Whilst I agree it looks a bit odd for me the comfort and practicality blended with the perfomance are hard to beat.
practicality?
It's got a big boot, rear seats are proper seats which are just big enough for an adult, iso-fix child seat fittings and the overall package feels very comfortable and safe for long journeys. Add all this to the fact that it's not as in your face as some comparable cars meaning you can take it to customers / clients etc etc. Compared to an estate car it's not practical. Compared to many of it's peers it is.

Not 100% attractive, but the most impressive beast on the roads!
Next to it, Ferraris are just plain rectangular flat cars.

As some have said, the looks were a grower (coupe more then convertible) and the v10 was a beast of an engine. apart from that depreciation was a nightmare. Still it's a bargain second hand now.

Probably the only good looking car into which the V10 was placed, was the M5 Touring.

Seriously, it was butt ugly. Might be good at what it did but so was the Fiat Multipla. They both got beat with the ugly stick. Twice.
Disagree entirely, I think the M6 looks fantastic.

It seems a shame they didn't offer it with the option of a manual box as they did for the US M5/M6.

So, is the new M5/6 going to share it's engine with the X5/6? I feel the should have their own engine, I'd feel cheated.

However good it was this car was £88,000 with high running costs and big depreciation.

Other car makers planning cars north of £50,000 note the market is limited.

McLaren forcast selling 4000 cars per year and the new Lotus management talk of sales of 8000 per year ( nearly double Ferrari's last published sales figure which had gone down 40 % from previous years) up from Lotus' last figure of below 2000.
Things have changed, time to take a realistic view.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Saying it's practical relative to its peers doesn't mean it's practical. The M5 touring is practical. The M6 is not.

This is a (or used to be) a website for petrolheads......not dheads ...run along
This is a ( or used to be ) a website where people could speak their mind and give an opinion. Not every comment needs to be praise or has to go along with your view of a car.

Erm, the looks. Sadly it just does not look that nice. My main grips about it is the front and rear headlamps, it just does not blend in with the car, it kinda looks ugly. The side profile of the car is excellent. Although the rear view is slightly better than the front.
